When collaborating as change agents directors of nursing and nursing consultants must pinpoint both the reasons for resistance to change and how to deal with them. in the case of a new director, this included developing a trusting, collaborative relationship with her staff. A nursing consultant helped make that job easier.

This study examined the expectations and perceptions of 63 military nurse participants from all levels of the nurse hierarchy for the role of the military nurse middle manager. Utilizing a tool developed by the researcher, the MMRQ, the study sought to explore role clarity and the importance of the management principles: planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling. Relationships and differences in nursing perceptions were analyzed using Pearson Correlation and Discriminant Analysis. Although the hypothesis of no relationship between expectations and perceptions could not be supported, findings revealed role confusion for two nurse hierarchical levels. In assessing professional caregivers of Alzheimer's Disease victims, this study tested whether, 1) knowledge would influence perceptions of burden in providing care to such patients, and if 2) individual locus of control would influence perceptions of burden in caring for; Alzheimer's I patients. Professional nurses (BSN's, RN's, and LPN's) from nursing banes, hospitals and psychiatric facilities were asked to complete a three part survey. Three instruments were utilized in this study: the Burden Self-Interview by Zarit, Reeves and Bach-Peterson and adapted for professional caregivers, a 15 item knowledge quiz and the North Carolina Internal External scale (short form) by Schopler, …

Leadership Potentials And Personality Traits Of Associate Degree And Baccalaureate Degree Students In Selected Associate And Baccalaureate Nursing Programs, Beverely J. Cobb

Leadership potentials and personality profiles of 27 associate degree and 20 baccalaureate degree nursing students were compared, using the California Psychological Inventory (CPI) and the Managerial Key for the CPI. The mean values on each of the 18 scales of the CPI and the mean values of the Managerial Score were compared and revealed no significant difference (p=.05) between the two groups of nursing students, and were within normal range, indicating average social and intellectual adjustment. Though the associate degree students had a higher mean value on the Managerial Score than the baccalaureate students the difference was not significant (p=.05). …

The focus of this research is the relationship between the supply of registered nurses and the rate of return on the educational investment to become a registered nurse. Is this rate of return a determining factor in the supply, past, present, and future? Within the scope of the questionnaire designed for this study, it was proposed to determine the satisfactions and dissatisfactions of obstetrical patients at a selected hospital. The study was concerned with patients' perception of nursing care through labor and delivery. Thirty postpartal clinic patients were interviewed in the hospital, using the interview guide which was constructed by the nurse researcher. Groups of questions in the interview guide corresponded to five categories. These five categories comprised the analysis sheet. The purpose of this study was to: (1) determine specific factors that contributed to medication errors during the identification process of medication preparation and administration, and (2) present these findings as an aid to minimize or eliminate factors which contribute to medication errors.
To conduct this study the descriptive survey was used. Seventeen medication nurses were observed on three medication rounds. A total of 688 patient contacts and 933 prepared medications were observed and tabulated. The tool of research used to collect data was an observation check sheet developed for this study.

The purpose of this study was to find the incidence of medication errors among a group of patients, sixty years of age and over, who were being treated in the outpatient department of a selected urban hospital; and to investigate the effect of certain selected factors on the errors found. The purpose of this study was to identify factors that contributed to the turnover among nursing personnel of a selected hospital in a large metropolitan city. It was felt that such a study would assist in the reduction of turnover among the nursing personnel.
Other similar studies revealed that reasons for turnover among hospital nursing personnel were due to low salaries, hours of work, work loads, communications, improper placement, poor supervision, and a lack of promotional opportunities. Health Education was assumed to be one effective method of improving maternal and infant health on the Island of Taiwan.
To establish the need for new health education pamphlets to be used as a supplement to the health education program in the area of maternal and infant care in Taiwan, a survey of pamphlets already available on the Island was made.
This study revealed that while an occasional chapter in several books lightly touched upon maternal and infant health only nine pamphlets were specifically prepared in the area of maternal and infant care.
