Background: UK HealthCare transitioned to a new enterprise electronic health record (EHR) system, offered by Epic Systems Corporation, in June 2021. Approximately 2,000 inpatient nurses use the EpicCare Inpatient Module in the 1,086 licensed bed facilities. Compared to other academic medical centers, UK HealthCare nurses take more time documenting in this EHR inpatient module’s Basic Assessment Flowsheet (documentation burden) and have a longer delay between assessment and documentation (timeliness) potentially contributing to nursing dissatisfaction with using this new EHR.

Background: Penicillin allergies are the most frequently reported drug allergy but less than 1% of the total population has a true immune-mediated allergy. Patients who are labeled as having a penicillin allergy may receive drugs that are less effective, more costly, and more toxic. METHODS: This study employed a descriptive, pretest-posttest single site comparative design. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to assess nurse manager span of control in medical- surgical, intermediate care, and progressive care units at Norton Healthcare and determine correlations between nurse manager span of control and employee engagement.

METHODS: For this descriptive, correlational study, the researcher analyzed data to identify relationships in span of control and employee engagement data for 19 nurse managers leading 23 inpatient care units. A survey to evaluate the role of the nurse manager and the assistant nurse manager also was done.
