The hybridization of DNA by sequential electrostatic and hydrogen-bonding immobilization of single-stranded complementary oligonucleotides at the air-water interface with cationic Langmuir monolayers is demonstrated. The complexation of the single-stranded DNA molecules with octadecylamine (ODA) Langmuir monolayers was followed in time by monitoring the pressure-area isotherms. A large (and slow) expansion of the ODA monolayer was observed during each stage of complexation in the following sequence: primary single-stranded DNA followed by complementary single-stranded DNA followed by the intercalator, ethidium bromide. Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of the ODA-DNA complex were formed on different substrates and characterized using quartz-crystal microgravimetry (QCM), Fourier transform infrared …

Journal of Electrochemistry
The electro_oxidation of ethanol on nm_Pt/GC electrode in alkaline solutions containing 0.02 mol·L -1 NaOH+0.1 mol·L -1 CH 3CH 2OH was investigated by using cyclic voltammetry and in_situ FTIR spectroscopy. The experimental results demonstrated that the main product of ethanol oxidation is CH 3COO -,only very small amount of CH 3CHO has been determined simultaneously. In contrast with the dual path reaction mechanism for the oxidation of ethanol in acid media, the oxidation of ethanol in alkaline media didn't pass through the dissociative adsorption, and no adsorbed species could be determined even using a nm_Pt/GC electrode that gives rise to enhancement of …

Journal of Electrochemistry
The electrochemically deposited Palladium hexacyanoferrate thin film on Glassy Carbon electrode (PdHCF|GC) has been studied in HCl, KCl and NaCl solutions by in_situ external reflection FTIR spectroelectrochemical technique. It is found that the behavior of the electroactive PdHCF film can be understood in terms of two states: Pd2Fe(II)(CN)6 formed in the inner layer and (M+)2Fe(II)(CN)6 (M+: electrolyte cation) formed in the outer layer. The inner layer is oxidized at Em=0.87 V in 1 mol/L KCl, while for the outer layer Em=0.77 V(vs. Ag/AgCl). In 1 mol/L NaCl or HCl solutions, half_wave potentials of these two layers are not well resolved, …

Andrew C. Hillier
The atomic force microscope (AFM) was used to examine the influence of an applied electrochemical potential on the interfacial properties of the electrode/electrolyte interface. Measurements of electrostatic force, adhesion, and friction coefficient were performed at two different electrode surfaces: glassy carbon anda thin film of sulfonate-derivatized poly(aniline) (SPANi). At the carbon electrode, changes in electrostatic force between probe and substrate exhibited a potential-dependent transition from repulsive to attractive values at potentials negative and positive of the potential of zero charge (Epzc). Simultaneous measurements of tip-substrate adhesion and friction coefficient showed a change from low to high values over the same …

Study On Nano Electrode Material Of Lithium Ion Batteries, Jinkua You, Yong Yang, Dong Shu, Shenghui Wu, Yingchun Zhang, Zugeng Lin
Journal of Electrochemistry
In this paper, the structure and morphology of the nano phase electrode materials have been characterized with XRD and TEM. The performances of electrochemical intercalation and deintercalation of lithium ions have been studied by using cyclic voltammograms and galvanostatic charge discharge techniques. The results show that the nano materials posses advantage of micro structure and Li+ ions intercalation performances. The observed high capacity and large charge discharge current density of the nano phase materials seem to have resulted from three kinds of effects: 1) an increase in the space for Li+ ions intercalation; 2) a decrease in the distance for …

Surface Modifications Of Carbon Materials Used As Anode Of Lithium Ion Battery Ⅲ. Improvement Of Artificially Imposed Solid Electrolyte Film On Cell Performance, Shuhua Ma, Xiabin Jing, Fosong Wang
Journal of Electrochemistry
The improving effect of solid electrolyte film artificially imposed on carbon electrode was investigated. The result showed that both the charge/discharge capacity and first charge/discharge efficiency, to a certain extent, were enhanced, and the result also suggested the effectiveness of the substitution of the artificially imposed solid electrolyte film for the inherent passivating film which was formed on the surface of the carbon electrode while inserted in the electrolyte during charging or discharging. The Scanning Electron Microscope result displayed the compact and well defined morphology of the artificially imposed crystalline film.

Journal of Electrochemistry
The carbon powders and film electrode with core shell structure were prepared by carbonization in gas state with using refined coal as shell material and Artificial Graphite and Mesocarbon Microbeads (2 800 ℃) graphite as core material. Galvanostatic charge/discharge measurement showed that both steady charge/discharge capacity and first charge/discharge efficiency were improved. Cyclic voltammetry indicated that the peak at about 0.7 V vs. Li +/Li characteristic of decomposition of electrolyte got weakened, and a more compact film was formed. X ray diffraction measurement suggested the existence of amorphous carbon shell on the carbon powders and carbon film.

The Current Distribution On The Anode Surface Of The Seale Oval Tubular Lead Acid Battery, Renao Gu, Jianlin Yao, Zhengfa Deng, Ru Sun
Journal of Electrochemistry
The current distribution on anode surface of sealed lead acid batter under different discharge current and degree was studied by chemical analytical method for the first time. We can conclude that the current distribution is not even. The current density on the edge of the electrode surface and the electrode terminal are bigger than other areas, that is, there are edge effect and terminal effect, and these effect are more obvious when the discharge current is 100 A and degree is 100%.

A Self-Consistent Numerical Method For Simulation Of Quantum Transport In High Electron Mobility Transistor; Part Ii: The Full Quantum Transport, Rahim Khoie
Electrical & Computer Engineering Faculty Research
In Part I of this paper we reported a self-consistent Boltzmann-Schrodinger-Poisson simulator for HEMT in which only electrons in the first subband were assumed to be quantized with their motion restricted to 2 dimensions. In that model, the electrons in the second and higher subbands were treated as bulk system behaving as a 3 dimensional electron gas. In Part II of this paper, we extend our simulator to a self-consistent full-quantum model in which the electrons in the second subband are also treated as quantized 2 dimensional gas. In this model, we consider the electrons in the lowest two subbands …
