Discriminating Wirelesshart Communication Devices Using Sub-Nyquist Stimulated Responses, Jeffrey D. Long, Michael A. Temple, Christopher M. Rondeau

Faculty Publications

Reliable detection of counterfeit electronic, electrical, and electromechanical devices within critical information and communications technology systems ensures that operational integrity and resiliency are maintained. Counterfeit detection extends the device’s service life that spans manufacture and pre-installation to removal and disposition activity. This is addressed here using Distinct Native Attribute (DNA) fingerprinting while considering the effects of sub-Nyquist sampling on DNA-based discrimination. The sub-Nyquist sampled signals were obtained using factor-of-205 decimation on Nyquist-compliant WirelessHART response signals. The DNA is extracted from actively stimulated responses of eight commercial WirelessHART adapters and metrics introduced to characterize classifier performance. Adverse effects of sub-Nyquist decimation …

Evaluation Of The Dynamic Vision Sensor’S Photoreceptor Circuit For Infrared Event-Based Sensing, Zinah M. Alsaad Apr 2023

Evaluation Of The Dynamic Vision Sensor’S Photoreceptor Circuit For Infrared Event-Based Sensing, Zinah M. Alsaad

Electrical and Computer Engineering ETDs

For space surveillance applications, neuromorphic imaging is being studied as it may perform sensing and tracking tasks with less power and downstream datalink demand. The read-out of the event-based camera is made to only be sensitive to changes in the signals it receives from the photodetector, which results in a datastream of events indicating where and when changes in illumination occur. This is in contrast to the conventional framing camera, which produces images by essentially counting the electrons produced by light incident on each pixel’s photodetector. These cameras are commercially available with siliconbased detectors for applications involving visible wavelengths. However, …

Pvpbc: Privacy- And Verifiability-Preserving E-Voting Based On Permissioned Blockchain, Muntadher Sallal, Ruairí De Fréin, Ali Malik

Articles

Privacy and verifiability are crucial security requirements in e-voting systems and combining them is considered to be a challenge given that they seem to be contradictory. On one hand, privacy means that cast votes cannot be traced to the corresponding voters. On the other hand, linkability of voters and their votes is a requirement of verifiability which has the consequence that a voter is able to check their vote in the election result. These two contradictory features can be addressed by adopting privacy-preserving cryptographic primitives, which at the same time as achieving privacy, achieve verifiability. Many end-to-end schemes that support …

Effects Of Calibration Errors On Dropped-Channel Polarimetric Synthetic Aperture Radar, Jacob C. Morrison Mar 2023

Effects Of Calibration Errors On Dropped-Channel Polarimetric Synthetic Aperture Radar, Jacob C. Morrison

Theses and Dissertations

Compressed Sensing (CS) is a mathematical technique that can be applied to sparse data sets to allow for sub-Nyquist sampling. DCPCS is a CS technique that recovers the signal from unmeasured polarisation channels due to antenna crosstalk coupling the information onto the remaining channels. DCPCS reduces data storage/transmission and receiver hardware requirements. This thesis examines the robustness of DCPCS to calibration errors on the antenna crosstalk matrix. Although the antenna design problem is relaxed to a large region of acceptable crosstalk values, very accurate calibration may be required in a monostatic radar. This thesis also looks at the importance of …

Comparison Of Federated Kalman Filter And Autonomous Resilient Management Of All-Source Sensors (Armas) Framework For Fault Detection And Exclusion, Flavio Fernandes

Theses and Dissertations

In recent times, there is a great demand for resilient and robust PNT solutions. Current navigation systems rely heavily on GNSS to provide this solution. This dependence is a major concern and therefore it is prudent to use additional aids to provide the best solution possible. However, traditional methods to address this need require a nontrivial number of Kalman filters to maintain a fault-free solution. The federated filter approach provides an attractive alternative to the current solutions. In this thesis, we examine the use of the federated filter design to address this need in today’s integrated navigation systems. We compared …

High Energy Blue Light Induces Oxidative Stress And Retinal Cell Apoptosis, Jessica Malinsky Jan 2023

High Energy Blue Light Induces Oxidative Stress And Retinal Cell Apoptosis, Jessica Malinsky

Capstone Showcase

Blue light (BL) is a high energy, short wavelength spanning 400 to 500 nm. Found in technological and environmental forms, BL has been shown to induce photochemical damage of the retina by reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. Excess ROS leads to oxidative stress, which disrupts retinal mitochondrial structure and function. As mitochondria amply occupy photoreceptors, they also contribute to oxidative stress due to their selectively significant absorption of BL at 400 to 500 nm. ROS generation that induces oxidative stress subsequently promotes retinal mitochondrial apoptosis. BL filtering and preventative mechanisms have been suggested to improve or repair BL-induced retinal damage, …
