Premium Single Phase Motor For Abb Group, Daniel Johnson, Sky Friar, Jesse Willer Apr 2023

Premium Single Phase Motor For Abb Group, Daniel Johnson, Sky Friar, Jesse Willer

ATU Research Symposium

ABB Group is in search of a next generation premium single phase motor. An integrated drive paired to a three phase motor will allow the company to take advantage of current three phase motor automation capacity while presenting the end user with a simple, ready to use motor operating off of single phase power. This project is the design of such an integrated drive.

The drive will accept 115/230 Vac, single phase supply power and send it through a full bridge rectifying, voltage doubling circuit. This circuit will rectify the alternating current to direct current and increase the voltage to …

Automated Robotic Light Bulb Testing Platform, Agha I. Akram, Muhammad Ali Ummy May 2022

Automated Robotic Light Bulb Testing Platform, Agha I. Akram, Muhammad Ali Ummy

Publications and Research

The main purpose of this project is to create a functional prototype of a multilayered system that incorporates aspects of electrical, mechanical, and computer engineering technology. The main objective of the system is to be able to determine whether a light bulb is working or not. The building blocks of this system are a robotic arm that is able to slide along a rail (for added mobility), a conveyor belt, and an electromechanical device that holds and tests light bulbs. Initially, the robot arm picks up a light bulb and places it into the holder which then tests it. A …

Scholar Week 2016 - present

The VEX Robotics Competition is a challenging event series for elementary to university students. Each year, VEX creates thought provoking games with goals that must be accomplished via robotics. The question ONU Robotics Team must answer is “how can one create the most effective strategies in order to win?” during the 2019-2020 Tower Takeover Game. The ONU Robotics Senior Design Team (ORSeT) will work to answer this question with principles from Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Computer Science. ORSeT will use this opportunity to not only create a winning robot, but also to challenge team members’ creative abilities and engineering …

An Electrooculography Prosthetic Control System, Walker Arce Mar 2019

An Electrooculography Prosthetic Control System, Walker Arce

UNO Student Research and Creative Activity Fair

For many surface EMG (sEMG) prosthetic control systems, the muscles on the affected limb are used to trigger the control system. This can lead to fatigue in the user as they have to maintain continuous muscle activation and coactivation in order to achieve prosthetic control [3]. The crux of any prosthetic control system is the human machine interface that is developed, and at present many control systems have complicated interfaces that limit the degrees of freedom of the prosthetics. This study focuses on the development of a low-cost prosthetic control peripheral that is compatible with the prosthetics developed by Dr. …

A Radio Frequency Identification (Rfid) Prosthetic Control System, Andrew Butler

UNO Student Research and Creative Activity Fair

Item classification and tagging in embedded systems has become ubiquitous in our society due to radio frequency identification (RFID) and the cost has dropped significantly for hardware that can interact with these devices. Due to this, possibilities in the realm of prosthetic control systems opens up for dynamic grip selection without user intervention. This study focuses on the development of a device capable of this functionality that is compatible with the prosthetics designed by Dr. Zuniga and his research team.

The printed circuit board (PCB) was designed using the EAGLE EDA package and incorporates a lithium polymer battery with a …

Smart Iot Sprinkler System, Galib F. Rahman Dec 2018

Smart Iot Sprinkler System, Galib F. Rahman

Publications and Research

The average family spends more than $1000 in water costs per year. One-way water is commonly wasted in many households is via inefficient sprinkler systems for lawns. Current technology has enabled the development of automatic sprinkler systems, which can be preconfigured to operate at desired times of day and intervals. Although these systems may reduce the amount of water utilized overall, they are not weather forecast aware. In situations when rainfall is upcoming the systems still water the lawn. In this project, we plan to implement a smart sprinkler system that has full awareness of upcoming weather and take account …

Next Generation Wireless Communications: Cognitive Radio, Adnan Quadri, Naima Kaabouch Mar 2017

Next Generation Wireless Communications: Cognitive Radio, Adnan Quadri, Naima Kaabouch

ADNAN QUADRI

Wireless networks and information traffic have grown exponentially over the last decade. Consequently, an increase in demand of radio frequency bandwidth has resulted. Recent studies have shown that with the current fixed spectrum allocation, there are spectrum holes that are not utilized all the time by the licensed users while other frequency channels, such as Wi-Fi, are heavily used. To efficiently utilize the radio spectrum, cognitive radio stands to be a promising solution as it will be reconfigurable, self-aware and efficient. This research aims to develop techniques that will allow a cognitive radio system to enhance the radio’s decision-making capabilities …

Evolutionary Algorithms Based Filters For Denoising Signals In Cognitive Radio Systems, Adnan Quadri, Naima Kaabouch Mar 2016

Evolutionary Algorithms Based Filters For Denoising Signals In Cognitive Radio Systems, Adnan Quadri, Naima Kaabouch

ADNAN QUADRI

In wireless communications, transmitted signals are distorted by noise, interference, path loss, and fading. Traditional communication systems include hardware based filters that are bulky, costly, and can filter only specific frequencies. Next generation communication systems, such as Cognitive Radios, will be reconfigurable and can dynamically adjust their parameters to filter any signal of any frequency. Therefore, this project aims to develop efficient reconfigurable algorithms for filters that meet the requirements of next generation communication systems.

Direct Torque Control Of Five-Phase Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine, Mukhtar Ahmad

Mukhtar Ahmad

Permanent magnet synchronous machines are becoming attractive in many industrial applications due to their high torque to inertia ratio, higher efficiency , and power density . Interest in Multi-phase motor drives has considerably increased during last few years. The main applications of multi-phase machines are in electric traction, electric vehicles, and hybrid vehicles. Multi-phase motor drives have many advantages including higher reliability and power density, and lower torque pulsations at higher frequencies
