Estimation Of The Effect Of Catalyst Physical Characteristics On Fenton-Like Oxidation Efficiency Using Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Computing Technique Dec 2014

Estimation Of The Effect Of Catalyst Physical Characteristics On Fenton-Like Oxidation Efficiency Using Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Computing Technique

Faculty of Engineering University of Malaya

Catalyst size, which determines surface area, is one of the major factors in catalytic performance. In this study, response surface methodology (RSM) and an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) were applied to quantify the effects of physical characteristics of magnetite on Fenton-like oxidation efficiency of methylene blue. For this purpose, two magnetite samples (M and N) were used and characterized by XRD, BET surface area, particle size analyzer and FE-SEM. Central composite design (CCD) was applied to design the experiments, develop regression models, optimize and evaluate the individual and interactive effects of five independent variables: H2O2 and catalyst concentrations, pH, …

Application Of Colloidal Gas Aphron Suspensions Produced From Sapindus Mukorossi For Arsenic Removal From Contaminated Soil Dec 2014

Application Of Colloidal Gas Aphron Suspensions Produced From Sapindus Mukorossi For Arsenic Removal From Contaminated Soil

Faculty of Engineering University of Malaya

Colloidal gas aphron dispersions (CGAs) can be described as a system of microbubbles suspended homogenously in a liquid matrix. This work examines the performance of CGAs in comparison to surfactant solutions for washing low levels of arsenic from an iron rich soil. Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate (SDS) and saponin, a biodegradable surfactant, obtained from Sapindus mukorossi or soapnut fruit were used for generating CGAs and solutions for soil washing. Column washing experiments were performed in down-flow and up flow modes at a soil pH of 5 and 6 using varying concentration of SDS and soapnut solutions as well as CGAs. Soapnut …

Potential Of Metal Recovery From Coal Combustion Products. Part I. Physicochemical Characterization, Dariusz Bradlo, Witold Zukowski, Piotr Czuprynski, Konrad Jura Dec 2014

Potential Of Metal Recovery From Coal Combustion Products. Part I. Physicochemical Characterization, Dariusz Bradlo, Witold Zukowski, Piotr Czuprynski, Konrad Jura

Witold Zukowski

The paper presents physicochemical characteristic of coal combustion products: fly ashes from three stages of electrostatic dust collecting system (FAI, FAII, FAIII), slag (S) and slurry from wet flue gas desulphurization (S-wFGD). Fly ashes are classifi ed as ‘siliceous’ or ‘sialic-high acid’. Th e concentrations of selected heavy metals indicate that their values increase in accordance with consecutive stages of dust collecting system. Fly ash FAIII and slurry from wet FGD have the largest heavy metals content. The results show the increment of lanthanides and ittrium (REY) contents in CCPs from slag, through FAII and FAI to S-wFGD and FAIII.

Potential Of Metal Recovery From Coal Combustion Products. Part Ii. Leaching Of Selected Elements, Dariusz Bradlo, Witold Zukowski, Piotr Czuprynski, Karol Witkowski

Witold Zukowski

The paper presents leaching results of coal combustion products: fly ashes from the three stages of dust collecting system, slag and slurry from wet fl ue gas desulphurization. The static leaching method was used at room temperature, at a pH value of 1, 4, 7, 10 and 13 for 10 days. H2SO4 and NaOH were added as extraction media and L/S ratio was set to the value of 10. The highest recovery ratio was attained during leaching at a pH value of 1 for fly ash from the third stage of dust collecting system and slurry.

Conversion Of Diethylamine Into Nitrogen Oxides During Combustion In Chemically Active Fluidized Bed, Beata Kowarska, Witold Zukowski, Jerzy Baron Dec 2014

Conversion Of Diethylamine Into Nitrogen Oxides During Combustion In Chemically Active Fluidized Bed, Beata Kowarska, Witold Zukowski, Jerzy Baron

Witold Zukowski

Combustion processes of gaseous fuel (propane) without and with addition of various amounts of diethylamine in fluidized bed, made of chemically active calcium oxide, were run and studied. On the basis of registered temperature, dynamic pressure in reaction zone and composition of exhaust fumes, analysis of diethylamine conversion into nitrogen oxides and its influence on kinetics of propane combustion process was carried out. The complexity of solid fuels (alternative or biomass which can contain large amount of nitrogen compounds in a form of amines, heterocyclic compounds, amino acids etc.) combustion caused that at this phase of researches, incineration of gaseous …
