"There Is Power In Being Out": A Three Article Approach Celebrating The Experiences Of Queer University Leaders, Andrew R. E. Lorenzana
Dissertations
Institutions of higher education were historically built to serve a wealthy, White, straight male student population and the leaders of these institutions still largely reflect these demographics. This project specifically aims to celebrate and amplify the life and career of university administrators who identify within the LGBTQ community. Mainly through the use of a portraiture methodology, this three-article study attempts to examine the ways in which LGBTQ identity and career influence one another.
Worldmaking and narrative will be used as a theoretical frame to help analyze the ways in which the telling of a queer individual’s story makes the world …

Teaching Digital And Social Media Marketing Through Community Engagement: An Online Asynchronous Class Longitudinal Case Study, Joie Hain, Anita Whiting
Atlantic Marketing Journal
Abstract - While marketing educators have identified the need for community engagement projects within the marketing curriculum, there is little research on implementing a community engagement project in marketing, especially in digital marketing. Therefore, this longitudinal case study aims to demonstrate how a community engagement project was implemented into digital and social media marketing classes at one university. This case study discusses (1) how the community engagement project was developed, (2) the work conducted, and (3) the results provided to the client. This case study also provides feedback from both students and the client. Overall, students were pleased with the …

Rural tourism plays a significant role in fostering economic development, preserving cultural heritage and promoting sustainable practices. It creates employment opportunities for local residents, both directly in the tourism sector and indirectly in supporting industries. Marketing tourism in rural communities requires a strategic approach that highlights the unique aspects of the area, promotes sustainable practices, and engages potential visitors. A strong understanding of marketing tools and techniques are critical in the usage of marketing ("); border-bottom: 1px solid transparent; background-size: 5px; font-size: 18pt; font-family: "Book Antiqua", "Book Antiqua_EmbeddedFont", "Book Antiqua_MSFontService", "Book Antiqua_MSFontService", Calibri, sans-serif; letter-spacing: 0px; font-kerning: normal; line-height: 6px; …

The impact of COVID-19 has had implications for every single lifestyle and business (Sharma et al., 2022). Not only did it impact the economy, but the service industry took the brunt of it. The industries most affected by COVID-19 over the period January 2020 to January 2022 included “airlines, automobiles, energy equipment and services, hotels-restaurants-leisure, and specialty retail (Vidovic, 2022). When airlines and recreation parts of the industry did not return to pre- pandemic levels in November of 2021, the United States saw a reflection of the appeal for more local tourism (Linn et al., 2022). Group projects are frequently used in higher education courses to facilitate collaboration; however, group effectiveness can vary greatly, resulting in individual stress and poor academic performance. To alleviate this, some instructors utilize peer evaluation. While instructors are well intentioned these rubrics rarely, if ever, are grounded in the constructs of collaboration that they wish to foster. This research poster reports on an ongoing project to develop a self and peer evaluation grounded in psychological capital and emotional intelligence, the EQ-PSY Evaluation. These constructs were selected based on their dimensions for individual and social capacities to capture effective teamwork.

Business School Marketing Strategies For Enrollment Challenges In The Current Environment, Selcuk Ertekin
Business School Marketing Strategies For Enrollment Challenges In The Current Environment, Selcuk Ertekin
Association of Marketing Theory and Practice Proceedings 2024
This article aims to understand the implications and remedies for the recent turmoil in business school enrollment and retention. By reviewing the academic business literature on enrollment decline and by incorporating a traditional marketing strategy framework, we categorized the existing studies to come up with a list for success. We found that business schools must revise their curriculum with sustainability and technological change in mind. They must invest in hedonic aspects of business education, consider adding creative internship opportunities and incorporate innovative online learning initiatives. They must also identify faculty super influencers and use social media in their promotions. Finally, …

First-Generation College Students And Sense Of Belonging At School: The Moderating Effect Of Remote Learning, Christina Su Ju
First-Generation College Students And Sense Of Belonging At School: The Moderating Effect Of Remote Learning, Christina Su Ju
Psychology Theses & Dissertations
This study examines the effect of first-generation college student status on students’ sense of belonging, and whether remote learning moderates this effect. Specifically, this study examines whether first-generation college students’ sense of belonging at university differs from their continuing-generation college student counterpart, and whether taking remote courses impacts that relationship. It was hypothesized that first-generation college students would report lower sense of belonging than continuing-generation college students, and that remote learning would moderate the relationship such that the negative effect of first-generation student status on sense of belonging is strengthened when the student takes more remote courses. Survey data from …

Money Path: A Tool For College, Financial, And Career Planning, Carl Gahala
Journal of the North American Management Society
Numerous websites and applications are available to help college students select a major and future career. Some of these tools ask students about their interests and then make recommendations about occupations that might be aligned with their aptitudes and interests. However, most tools do not inform students about the amount of money they will need to borrow to obtain their college degree, nor do they help students understand the impact that student loan debt will have on their future budgets. This paper discusses another unique financial literacy tool called Money Path, which allows students to develop a personal budget that …
