Key Factors Influencing Job Satisfaction Among Academic Staff In The University, Victor Amadi Stephen Sep 2024

Key Factors Influencing Job Satisfaction Among Academic Staff In The University, Victor Amadi Stephen

School of Rehabilitation Services & Counseling Faculty Publications and Presentations

Job satisfaction (JS) undoubtedly impacts significantly on the productive capacity and general well-being of academic staff within universities. Poor JS affects not only individual performance but also broader institutional goals and may culminate in a decline in staff morale, disloyalty, constant labor migration and unending industrial actions by labor unions within the university. Enhancing job satisfaction can improve staff’s quality of service, staff retention, productivity, and the overall academic quality of the institutions. This study reviews factors associated with job satisfaction among academic staff in universities, and how these factors independently contribute to overall job satisfaction. This study draws on …

Ncaa Division I Collegiate Athletes’ Motivational Perspectives Pertaining To Their Academic And Athletic Roles, Jeongwon Choi, Allison B. Smith

Journal of Athlete Development and Experience

Research continues to point to collegiate athletes need to navigate their conflicting roles of academics and athletics simultaneously to be successful in their collegiate experience. Thus, in order to traverse these dual roles, collegiate athletes need to be both intrinsically and extrinsically motivated to balance both academic and athletic responsibilities. The purpose of this study is to explore and understand collegiate athletes’ perceptions of motivation through a qualitative design based on Self Determination Theory (SDT). Ten collegiate athletes who competed at the NCAA Division I level in a variety of sports were interviewed for this study. Three meaningful themes emerged …

The Role Of Athlete Identity, Motivation, And Satisfaction On The Mental Well-Being Of Division I Collegiate Athletes, Ronnie D. Watson, Khirey B. Walker, Jean-Charles Lebeau, Robert Turick, Matthew Allen Moore, James Johnson

Journal of Athlete Development and Experience

Concerns about the mental well-being of collegiate athletes, given high reports of psychological issues, have prompted a survey-based study among NCAA Division I student-athletes. The research explores the influence of athlete identity, motivation, and satisfaction on mental well-being, and how it varies among different NCAA classifications (i.e., G5, FCS, DI-NO). Instruments used include the Athletic Identity Measurement Scale (AIMS), the Athlete Satisfaction Questionnaire (ASQ), the Student-Athlete’s Motivation Towards Sports and Academics Questionnaire (SAMSAQ), and the Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-being Scale (WEMWBS). The secondary aim investigates differences in these factors across Division I competition levels (i.e., G5, FCS, DI-NO). This study provides …

“The Game Was Ruined For Me There:” Examining The Mental Health Byproducts Of The Transfer Portal And Nil On Student-Athletes, Ethan Madden, Brendan O'Hallarn Jul 2024

“The Game Was Ruined For Me There:” Examining The Mental Health Byproducts Of The Transfer Portal And Nil On Student-Athletes, Ethan Madden, Brendan O'Hallarn

Journal of Athlete Development and Experience

Two rule changes have brought seismic changes to collegiate sports in the United States—the right for college athletes to monetize their Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL), and the Transfer Portal for athletes looking to switch schools. Qualitative interviews with 16 college athletes, explored the mental health byproducts of these new athlete opportunities. The interviews suggest that many athletes are hesitant to participate in NIL due to a lack of guidance. The study also found that college athletes believe entering the Transfer Portal to be a highly stressful experience, comparing the process to being recruited out of high school. However, the …

Does Deviating From Agile Principles Have An Impact On Project Success In North Carolina Higher Education Institutions?, Douglas A. Stanley

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Agile software development projects are over three times more likely to succeed than waterfall projects, but 58% of agile-led projects are unable to satisfy the timeline, budget, and customer (Standish Group, 2020). This quantitative correlational study examines if a relationship exists between deviating from the 12 agile principles outlined in the Manifesto for Agile Software Development (Beck et al., 2001) and the perceived level of success for agile software development projects within North Carolina higher education institutions. The general problem addressed by this study is the failure of organizations adhering to agile principles resulting in unsuccessful software development projects. Using …

Career Preferences Of Business Students: Traditional Career Path Or Entrepreneurship And Self-Employment?, David W. Whitlock, Ashley J. Hampton, Shanker Menon

Journal of Business & Entrepreneurship

Factors influencing career preferences of business students are explored. This study builds upon an original research project conducted in 1995, which focused on comparing pursuits of entrepreneurship versus more traditional business employment as career paths for business students. In the present study, 40 students enrolled in the senior-level capstone business course and 26 students enrolled in the freshman-level introductory business course in an AACSB accredited business school were administered surveys to determine career preferences and the factors influencing those preferences. The results of the introductory-level course are compared to those of students in the senior-level capstone business course and reported. …
