At the present time in the State of Washington, there are no reports with detailed information about the number of secondary schools using closed circuit television, nor is there information on the type of equipment or its use in existing closed circuit television facilities. Therefore, it is the purpose of this study to assess the current facilities and uses of closed circuit television in the secondary schools of the State of Washington. The assessment of facilities throughout the state would be valuable to schools in the purchasing of equipment and the establishment of new programs in closed circuit television.

The purpose of this study was to examine the methods used by three school districts--a small district, a medium-sized district, and a larger district--which have set up centralized technical services for the organization of learning resource materials, thereby relieving the individual librarian within the buildings of certain necessary, but time-consuming tasks. These methods will be set down herein and studied with the possibility in mind that districts which do not now provide these services may find some suggestions to consider in deciding upon the feasibility of such services.

The data was collected from Title II applications submitted by Washington State Public Schools to the State Department of Public Instruction as of June 12, 1967.

I feel the video tape recorder will have a very definite place in the schools. It will be one of our audiovisual aids, just as television, the 16mm. projector and others. It is a tool with unlimited possibilities and a great deal of flexibility. It is a device that can and will be used by teachers at all levels of teaching. It is not an instrument to take the place of the teacher, but, like all audiovisual equipment, is a tool to help the teacher do a more effective job.

Much has been done since World War II to propagate and develop instructional aids for general education. Many of these have been specifically designed to fit the industrial arts areas. However, some industrial arts instructors seem unaware of the possibilities inherent in instructional aids. This paper, then, is an attempt to (1) describe and evaluate several specific teaching aids and (2) use these examples to show some possible roles of teaching aids in industrial arts.
