In this study, I investigated the impact of intrusive advising upon undergraduate student retention. Specifically, I sought to identify the background characteristics of at-risk students at the midterm point in a semester, and whether significant differences existed among students who were retained in comparison with those students who were not retained. In addition, I examined the extent to which intrusive advising interventions predicted student retention when controlling for student demographics. Although the intrusive advising interventions were not statistically significant in this model, several notable findings emerged regarding groups of at-risk students who were more or less likely to be retained …

Little to no research has been conducted to assess the impact of formal sorority recruitment processes on efficacy levels of sorority women. While numerous studies have been conducted concerning the development of individual women and skills gathered throughout their collegiate experience, there has been limited research on how participation in sorority recruitment may impact psychological and physiological states, and increase or decrease self and collective efficacy.

Abstract

Teacher attrition is a major problem facing education today. Some literature reports as many as half of all teachers leave the profession within the first five years. The current study sought to examine the role of resources as moderators to the impacts of job stress and job satisfaction on quit intention in early career teachers. Drawing from conservation of resource theory, findings from this study show that high levels of job stress and low levels of job satisfaction are related to increased quit intention. Selected participants were interviewed to gather data from their own narratives about the experiences and challenges as current women Deans in higher education. Through in-depth interviews, research participants provided perceived characteristics needed for effective teachers, principals, and teacher-principal relationships, and pointed out characteristics detrimental to the effectiveness of the teacher-principal relationship. The primary purpose of this study was to determine the traits and behaviors of an ethical leader as perceived by tenured and tenure-track faculty at a research university (RU/VH) in the southeastern portion of the United States. The researcher utilized a researcher-designed survey instrument which consisted of 44 possible traits and behaviors of an ethical leader and selected demographic characteristics.

This case study explored eight middle school teachers’ experiences working with Black adolescent males at different Louisiana schools. The selected participants represented various identities and shared their perceptions of their teaching and management practices. This case study also examined the teachers’ mindsets and beliefs about teaching Black male students. Finally, the teachers discussed how they perceive their own racial identity, gender, socioeconomic class, and other identities when working with Black males. I explored their experiences by conducting face-to-face semi-structured interviews.
