ABSTRACT

The risk of financial sustainability for the university in the U.S. and Europe has been stressed by the reign of political authority in higher education disinvestment in the last four decades. The institution’s purpose has since been questioned, weighted by economics versus academics. Institutional priority and expanded centrality for strategic planning of societal engagement––the Third Mission––coupled with the Education and Research missions, promote clarity of the university’s purpose in this knowledge-based economy. Evaluating The Impact Of Intrusive Advising On Undergraduate Student Retention, Rebecca E. Caire

In this study, I investigated the impact of intrusive advising upon undergraduate student retention. Specifically, I sought to identify the background characteristics of at-risk students at the midterm point in a semester, and whether significant differences existed among students who were retained in comparison with those students who were not retained. In addition, I examined the extent to which intrusive advising interventions predicted student retention when controlling for student demographics. Little to no research has been conducted to assess the impact of formal sorority recruitment processes on efficacy levels of sorority women. Abstract

Teacher attrition is a major problem facing education today. Some literature reports as many as half of all teachers leave the profession within the first five years. The current study sought to examine the role of resources as moderators to the impacts of job stress and job satisfaction on quit intention in early career teachers. Drawing from conservation of resource theory, findings from this study show that high levels of job stress and low levels of job satisfaction are related to increased quit intention.
