Chapter 4 (Draft): John Locke And The Hobbesian Hypothesis: How A Very Similar Colonial Prejudice Found Its Way Into The Natural Rights Justification Of Private Property, Karl Widerquist, Grant Mccall
Karl Widerquist
This chapter is a preliminary draft of Chapter 4 of the book, "Prehistoric Myths in Modern Political Philosophy." The role of this chapter is to show that what we call "the Hobbesian Hypothesis" is an essential premise in John Locke's justification of private property. The Hobbesian hypothesis, in this context, is the claim that everyone is better off in a society with private land and resource ownership (even if they own no land or resources) than they could reasonably except to be in a society in which these resources remained unowned and people lived as hunter-gatherers. This chapter does not …

On The Role Of First Graffito In The Emergence Of More Vandalism, Ali Taghinezhad

This article focused strictly on how a total number of one hundred collective textual memoranda provoke people to add to previous vandalism in Iranian culture. The study was guided by Wilson and Kellingʼs (1982) theory of Broken Window. In the main, collective written evidence was collected based on Broken Window Theory (BWT) suggesting that signs of disorderly and petty criminal behavior trigger more disorderly and petty criminal behavior, thus causing the behavior to spread. BWT gives no insight into what is and what is not a condition of disorder that will spread. As part of the scrutiny process, this study …

Proportional Relationship In The Segmentation Masses Of Obrecht And Its Influence On Form And Structure, Ralph Jarzombek
Proportional Relationship In The Segmentation Masses Of Obrecht And Its Influence On Form And Structure, Ralph Jarzombek
Ralph Jarzombek
Proportional relationships of simple numbers were commonly used in architecture during the Renaissance period. These proportional relationships were based on the primary musical consonances of the Greek musical system: the octave (2:1), fifth (3:2), and fourth (4:3). In a similar manner, Obrecht uses the proportional relationships created by periods of rest and the last notes of the cantus firmus segments. These proportional relationships are found in the same voice as the cantus firmus, and appear when the statements of the cantus firmus segments are absent. Together with the statements of the cantus firmus segments, these proportional relationships provide the entire …

Table Annexed To Article: The Text Of The Standing Orders Of The Federal Convention: Jackson’S And Madison’S Texts Surveyed, Peter Aschenbrenner
Peter J. Aschenbrenner
Drawing on Farrand’s Records of the Federal Convention of 1787, Vol. 1, Our Constitutional Logic has reconciled the differences between the text of the standing Orders as presented in the text of William Jackson, the convention’s secretary, and James Madison, the convention’s semi-official reporter, both as edited by Max Farrand. This text will appear in Basic Texts in the Founding of Parliamentary Science Originating from the United Kingdom and United States (in MR Text Format), 2 OCL 136_5; in turn, OCL is producing the first concordance of these texts in Founding the Science of Parliamentary Procedure, 1785-1789: Basic Texts in …

Thomas Jefferson’S First Inaugural Address In Mr Text Format (March 4, 1801) With Observations On The Tyranny Of The Majority And Tyranny Of The Minority, Peter Aschenbrenner
Peter J. Aschenbrenner
Our Constitutional Logic presents the 1,724 words of Thomas Jefferson’s First Inaugural Address, delivered March 4, 1801. The table annexed hereto presents this work in MR Text format. For OCL’s present purpose TJ’s invocation of TOM-TOM – the mathematical logic which supplies no convenient repose between the tyranny of the majority and the tyranny of the minority – is drawn to the reader’s attention.

Chapter 3 (Draft) The Hobbesian Hypothesis: How A Colonial Prejudice Became An Essential Premise In The Most Popular Justification Of Government, Karl Widerquist, Grant Mccall
Karl Widerquist
This chapter is a draft of Chapter Three of the book that Grant McCall and I are writing. The book is called, "Prehistoric Myths in Modern Political Philosophy." This chapter shows now Hobbes introduce an empirical claim into his most influential justification of the state. We call this claim the Hobbesian hypothesis: everyone is better off under the authority of a sovereign government than everyone would be outside of that authority. The chapter argue that this hypothesis is a strong, counterfactual, empirical claim about people in small-scale stateless societies that has not been well-established by empirical evidence.
A Closer Look At Using Stringer’S Action Research Model In Improving Students’ Learning, Mohammad Ali Nasrollahi
A Closer Look At Using Stringer’S Action Research Model In Improving Students’ Learning, Mohammad Ali Nasrollahi
Mohammad Ali Nasrollahi(Ph.D)
Action research is a systematic approach to investigation that enables people to find effective solutions to problems they confront in their everyday lives. A significant feature is that action research lays claim to the professional development in education. Action research as any systematic inquiry conducted by teachers, administrators, and counselors with a vested interest in the teaching and learning process, for the purpose of gathering data about how their particular schools operate, how they teach, and how their students learn. Education is perhaps the most prolific source of action research resources. Action research can be done by teachers in their …

Ethno-Religious Crises In Nigeria And National Integration: The Role Of The Youth, Oluwaseun Viyon Ojo
Oluwaseun Viyon Ojo
The increasing wave of ethno-religious crises in the Nigeria polity had been a deep subject of concern to all stakeholders .Political scientists, religious leaders, legal experts, economic analysts and even the ordinary citizens have been alarmed by the devastating consequences that these increased ethno religious imbroglios had occasioned to the continued existence of the polity and cohesion of the Nigerian society. Many are of the strong opinion that the continued presence of ethno religious crises, social imbroglios and political upheavals dread the very essence of having to live together interdependently in the society. These social unrests and political imbroglios have …

Confronting The Internet's Dark Side: Moral And Social Responsibility On The Free Highway, Raphael Cohen-Almagor
raphael cohen-almagor
This book focuses on the tension between Free Speech fundamentalism and Social Responsibility at the individual, corporate, and nation-state level. It brings an international perspective to the central topics (child pornography, hate speech, suicidal and homicidal enablers, cybercrime and terrorism). The central philosophical argument of this book is the Promotional Approach, which the author sees as a kind of Golden Mean between Ronald Dworkin and Joseph Raz. The book utilizes the Aristotelian doctrine of the mean to endorse the kind of practical wisdom required to make choices between freedom and security, unlimited license and moral responsibility. It argues that this …

Artistic Synergism And Disruptive Continuity In Nol Alembong's "The Beginning", Oscar C. Labang
Artistic Synergism And Disruptive Continuity In Nol Alembong's "The Beginning", Oscar C. Labang
Dr. Oscar C. Labang
The analytical trajectory of this paper narrows the general, complex and complicated spectrum of intertextuality discourses to a form of intertextual reworking and playfulness, which is called narrative intertextuality. It examines the intertextual matrix upon which the Anglophone Cameroon poet, Nol Alembong, engages a dialogue between texts from different cultural, mythological, philosophical and narratological perspectives. Through textual exegeses of the short poem “The Beginning”, this paper argues that Alembong develops a poetic narrative on the frame of older narratives not necessarily to invite the reader to contemplate the old text but intriguingly to situate the poetic piece within the collective …
