In Arthur Roberts' excellent volume reflecting on his life, Drawn By The Light, he briefly describes his involvement in state and local politics. He ran unsuccessfully for a position in the Oregon Legislature and later served a four-year term on the Yachats, Oregon, City Council. It was not easy for Arthur to bridge the gulf between the intellectual depth and erudite vocabulary of the scholar and the rough and tumble of state and local politics.
