This study discusses the pursuit of understanding how the discursive construction of the internet affects individuals, identities, and democracy. it also discusses the internet within theoretical positions on its history, the public sphere, and revolutionary politics. Western governments have created legislation regulating the internet for democratic purposes, and this study examines how different and often contrasting views of democracy have shaped the way those of us connected to the internet can speak about it. The purpose of this study was to identify parental perceptions on immunizations causing Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs), and identify whether or not these perceptions influenced whether or not a parent vaccinated their child. The purpose of this research project was to examine mental health workers' knowledge about sex trafficking, ability to assess for sex trafficking victimization and existence of educaiton and training about sex trafficking in the social work field. The study showed that participants were not educated on sex trafficking while obtaining their Master of Social Work degree. It was also found that risk assessment for sex trafficking and having a standardized risk assessment instrument would be beneficial.

This study examines the conditions of hopelessness in the city of San Bernardino. The purpose of this study was to examine the ways in which women and men's accessing of services for homelessness differ. In this Positivist study, the researcher asked the question, what factors determine Social Workers' perceptions of consumers who receive mental health services. The study participants were Bachelor's and Master's of Social Work students. Results of the study suggested that education increased students' levels of stigma towards mental health consumers, but personal and mental health work experience did not influence levels of stigma.

This thesis will examine the implications of urban wilderness, what representations of urban wilderness will look like, and whether we have, or can, move away from the archaic notion of wilderness that has prevailed since being defined in the Wilderness Act. While ecocritical theorists have not yet fully engaged in urban ecocritical analysis, the emerging trend to consider the city as a wild place is a direct result of a shift in cultural perspective, as is evidence through the development of natural and artificial place-making, such as the High Line Park in New York City.

The purpose of this study is to contextualize the present day use of forced labor in West Africa within the larger historical framework of ongoing international labor exploitation in the chocolate industry as a whole. This study incorporated a series of photographs taken on cemetery sites, census records, death cards, and epitaphs of the 18th and 19th centuries in the southeast. This data was then deciphered to reveal the possible biographies of the deceased individuals in Charleston, South Carolina and Savannah, Georgia due to their rich abundance of 18th and 19th century cemeteries, public records, and historical societies. Can gravestone markers truly depict the whole sum of a person's life? Some gravestone markers exhibit an entire range of iconographic images, symbols, and epitaphs allowing the viewer to decipher information about the deceased.

This study examined job search intensity among felony-convicted, substance-abusing individuals who have been court mandated to attend community based treatment. Drug courts provide counseling and other services to help convicted felons become productive members of society. Data was gathered qualitatively through interviews with seventeen older adults living in independent living apartments of a continuing care retirement community. The study site was a continuing care retirement community with independent living apartments for older adults in Riverside County, California.
