San Luis Obispo In A Box: Damage Accumulation And Combined Stressor Matching In Accelerated Uv Testing, Cameron N. Causey
San Luis Obispo In A Box: Damage Accumulation And Combined Stressor Matching In Accelerated Uv Testing, Cameron N. Causey
Master's Theses
The goal of service life prediction is to accurately predict the useful lifetime of a coating system in a typical service environment. Field testing is the most true-to-life form of service life testing but requires long exposure times, often not quick enough to readily aid redesign in the product development cycle. As an alternative, accelerated weathering chambers are used to speed up coating failure in a laboratory setting. These devices do indeed accelerate failure but often produce failure modes that are not seen in actual service or produce material rankings that are not reproducible. This work explores the principle of …
Predicting Rheology Of Uv-Curable Nanoparticle Ink Components And Compositions For Inkjet Additive Manufacturing, Cameron D. Lutz
Predicting Rheology Of Uv-Curable Nanoparticle Ink Components And Compositions For Inkjet Additive Manufacturing, Cameron D. Lutz
Master's Theses
Inkjet additive manufacturing is the next step toward ubiquitous manufacturing by enabling multi-material printing that can exhibit various mechanical, electronic, and thermal properties. These characteristics are realized in the careful formulation of the inks and their functional materials, but there are many constraints that need to be satisfied to allow optimal jetting performance and build quality when used in an inkjet 3-D printer. Previous research has addressed the desirable rheology characteristics to enable stable drop formation and how the metallic nanoparticles affect the viscosity of inks. The contending goals of increasing nanoparticle-loading to improve material deposition rates while trying to …
Instant Hdr-Nerf: Fast Learning Of High Dynamic Range View Synthesis With Unknown Exposure Settings, Nam Nguyen
Instant Hdr-Nerf: Fast Learning Of High Dynamic Range View Synthesis With Unknown Exposure Settings, Nam Nguyen
Master's Theses
We propose Instant High Dynamic Range Neural Radiance Fields (Instant HDR-NeRF), a method of learning high dynamic range (HDR) view synthesis from a set of low dynamic range (LDR) views with unknown and varying exposure and white balance in as little as minutes. Our method can render novel HDR views without ground-truth supervision, and novel LDR views in different exposure settings, including those that match the ground-truth LDR views. The key to our method is to model the physical process of the camera with two implicit MLPs: a radiance field and a monotonically increasing tone-mapper. Built upon Instant Neural Graphics …

We're Here To Stay: Nonviolence And The Disability Rights Movement, Sky Mcleod
University Honors Theses
Nonviolent resistance is an effective tool for enacting large scale change including the advancement of civil rights. Disabled Americans have often used nonviolent protest and civil resistance to this aim. Despite this rich history of activism, the history of the Disability Rights Movement has largely been missing from scholarship on nonviolent resistance. Similarly, historical accounts in Disability Studies provide a fragmented perspective on the use of nonviolent resistance by Disabled people. This thesis delves into this under-appreciated history. From the League of the Physically Handicapped in the 1930s to Trump’s inauguration in 2016, this paper traces the progress of the …

Developing A Novel Touchscreen-Based Test Of Cognitive Judgement Bias, Ashlyn Hersey
Developing A Novel Touchscreen-Based Test Of Cognitive Judgement Bias, Ashlyn Hersey
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
Cognitive judgement bias (CJB) refers to the interpretation of ambiguous stimuli in a negative (pessimistic) or positive (optimistic) way. Negative CJB is observed in depression and anxiety, conditions that burden affected individuals and caregivers. Pre-clinical animal research is key to understanding CJB and developing therapies, so a translationally relevant CJB test would be a useful addition to the existing pre-clinical rodent touchscreen test battery. We pharmacologically validated a mouse touchscreen CJB task using bupropion and tetrabenazine, agents known to induce positive and negative CJB, respectively. Additionally, we validated the task using an ecologically relevant stressor (injection and handling). Bupropion produced …
Perceived And Preferred Methods To Adult Language Learning, Suzie Tse
Perceived And Preferred Methods To Adult Language Learning, Suzie Tse
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this research study is to understand the adult language learners in formal learning setting and know what do they perceive as the main methods of teaching and what do they prefer instead. If there is a gap between preferred methods of learning and perceived methods of learning, then there is a need that needs to be addressed. This is important because many students find language learning at best ineffective and at worst impossible. I hypothesize that there will be a difference between adult student perception and preference because student focuses more on speaking and listening skill over …

What Gives? Trust, Risk, Altruism, And Reciprocity Across 76 Countries, Sherwin Mosavat
Master's Theses
Abstract:
The decades-long literature pertaining to gender-specific preferences lies at the intersection of economics and psychology with a primary focus on the correlation between economic development and gender-specific preferences. Better understanding of this correlation has helped researchers understand how individuals make decisions for their education, finances, and occupation. Falk & Hermle (2018) assess the correlation between GDP and various gender-specific preferences including trust, risk, altruism, and reciprocity. In order to better understand the relationship between economic development and gender-specific preferences, I expand on the Falk & Hermle 2018 framework by introducing new macroeconomic, prosocial, and cultural variables as additional explanatory …

Researchers have quantified the hydrologic, sedimentologic, and geomorphic effects of dams extensively in the past century. Many of these studies have focused on dams in the United States and Europe, yet the rising dam construction in low latitude areas necessitates further research into the effects of these dams on the rivers they harness. This investigation aims to discover how the hydrologic, sedimentologic, and geomorphic effects of dams differ in low latitudes, specifically in high elevation areas. We use the Coca Codo Sinclair Dam on the Río Coca in Napo, Ecuador, as our study site. We employ a multipronged methodology using …
Egypt’S Legal Modernism: Challenging The National Discourse, Mohamed A. El-Deeb
Egypt’S Legal Modernism: Challenging The National Discourse, Mohamed A. El-Deeb
Theses and Dissertations
Egypt’s legal modernity is the story of the modern Egyptian state itself. Reforming the country’s judiciary in the late nineteenth century was meant to achieve ambitious aims beyond the functionality of a justice system. The utmost goal was the country’s independence from the suzerainty of the Ottoman Empire. The judicial reforms modernized the Egyptian state and built a judiciary and legal community like no other place. Egypt achieved its independent judiciary before gaining its political independence. That was a remarkable achievement of the judicial reform. That rich part of Egypt’s modern history is negated and disregarded from public awareness. Not …

Complementing Vehicle Trajectories Using Two Camera Viewpoints, Katsuaki Nakano
Complementing Vehicle Trajectories Using Two Camera Viewpoints, Katsuaki Nakano
Theses
Traffic volume surveying is a crucial activity to get traffic statistics for road management and traffic congestion control. In recent years, the target environment of traffic volume surveying has become more complex, such as the fully automated surveillance of many-way intersections. Further compounding this complexity, some local governments may not be able to install a camera at a high enough elevation to capture the entire intersection due to environmental, legal, safety, or cost restrictions. Therefore, bigger objects such as buses and trucks often occlude other vehicles in the captured image. This occlusion degrades the accuracy of counting and is one …
Evaluating The Relationship Between Parent-Adolescent Communication, Social Media Use, And Psychological Well-Being In Adolescents, Johannah Smith
Evaluating The Relationship Between Parent-Adolescent Communication, Social Media Use, And Psychological Well-Being In Adolescents, Johannah Smith
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Adolescents, particularly teenage girls, use social media substantially more than any other age group (Boneva et al., 2006; Gross, 2004; Padilla-Walker et al., 2020). Greater social media use has been linked to internalizing and externalizing problems; however, specific social media behavior and the relation to internalizing and externalizing problems is unknown. Additionally, how parent-adolescent communication impacts the relationships has not been explored. This is concerning as specific social media behavior, such as ruminating with peers and general social media addiction, has been linked to adolescents’ psychological well-being. (Sarmiento et al., 2020; Shensa et al., 2017; Nesi et al., 2020). The …
