Objectives: To evaluate serum neuron-specific enolase and S100β protein as biomarkers for the detection of brain injury in pediatric sepsis and mortality. Background Septic-associated encephalopathy (SAE) is a common manifestation of sepsis, which associated with higher rates of mortality.

Methods: This case-control study was conducted on 45 septic cases admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Pediatric Department, Menoufia University Hospitals and 45 apparently healthy children. Objectives: to evaluate the effectiveness and complications rates after microsurgical varicocele ligation in comparison to conventional inguinal approach. Methods: This study was a clinical randomized trial done in Menoufia Urology Department including eighty-three patients with varicocele from December 2018 to December 2020. Patients with clinical varicoceles and affected semen parameters were randomized to either conventional or microsurgical inguinal varicocelectomy. Intraoperative and post-operative complications were documented including hydrocele formation, varicocele recurrence, and testicular atrophy. Objective: To evaluate the role of combined preoperative neutrophil lymphocytic ratio (NLR) and Prognostic nutritional index (PNI) as a predictor of the postoperative outcomes of unresectable Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) TACE-treated patients. Background: NLR and PNI are immunonutritional indices associated with postoperative outcomes in HCC TACE-treated patients. Patients and methods: NLR-PNI score calculated for 40 candidates and classified into 3 groups (NLR-PNI0, NLR-PNI1 and NLR-PNI2). Patients underwent TACE and investigations repeated after one month. The effects of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on quality of life (QOL) have been reported in different populations.

Objective

to describe effect of COVID-19 on QOL of patients undergoing cardiac surgery and its associated factors in Egypt.

Participants and methods

A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 200 patients with COVID-19 waiting for cardiac surgery. The socio-demographic and quality of life data were collected. The COV19 – Impact on Quality of Life (COV19-QOL) was used to measure QOL of COVID-19 patients before cardiac surgery. Student’s t-test was used for testing significance between groups.
