Bicycling is a growing activity. It provides both a form of exercise and a means of transportation. Recent estimates indicate there are over 85 million bicycle users in the United States.' Renewed interest in bicycling has occurred in the last ten years.' Some of the major reasons for the growth in bicycling include the revival of social acceptability of adult bicycling, the emphasis on the need for exercise, the greater availability of leisure time, the provision of bike ways and a response to the "energy crisis". The image geographers of as military militaristic geographers has not been conducive to widespread acceptance and participation by academia. Mr. Graves has decried the narrow parameters of military geography, parameters made even more narrow by his arbitrary definition of the profession .. only those who are trained geographers and a component of the military. There is a distinct difference between membership in the military and those in our profession who study the character of an area in the context of military operations, even though a significant number of military geographers are associated with the military. Vigorous debate has raged virtually since Columbus' discovery of America over who the American Indians were, where they came from, how they got here, and what the source of their civilization was. Momentarily, consideration was given to their being a separate creation; not the descendants of the people of Genesis. The Pope settled that by stating firmly that the Indians were God's creatures just as surely as the Spanish and Portuguese were, and as such entitled to all the rights, duties, and privileges thereto appertaining as they say as they cap and gown you.

In a conversation with Dr. Carter, at the Annual Meeting of the Association of American Geographers in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a year ago, he discussed some of the recent findings of investigators of ancient civilizations and particularly their new information regarding worldwide travel of those societies. Because exploration geography is a field that is neglected by most research geographers, and because some students feel that there are few new research areas to become involved in, I asked Dr. Carter if he he could write, for student consumption, an article which would demonstrate the attractiveness of exploration geography as a research career. …

The fare this issue is varied -- one article deals with some aspects of mobile homes; one with wildlife habitat; and, one with migration. And in the entire lot of them there is only one set of maps -- and those were done by a computer. I keep looking for maps in papers which are submitted. On occasion, there is one. Often there are photos or diagrams -- but not frequently enough. Do we really stress today our basic tools in Geography? Green hydrogen is often presented as a transformative solution to the dual challenges of decarbonization and economic development. This article applies the framework of climate necropolitics to interrogate the contested spatialities underlying such “win-win” narratives. It does so through an extended case study of Hyphen Hydrogen Energy, a $10 billion green hydrogen project planned for Lüderitz, Namibia. A remote town of 20,000 in a country with a $12 billion annual GDP, Lüderitz initially appears to be an unlikely host site for the “industrial fuel of the future.” To explain this outcome, I first illustrate how discordant socio-spatial projects—including European energy …

This study explores the factors influencing driver's license acquisition among young individuals and examines its broader implications for mobility, safety, and sustainability. Leveraging nationally representative survey data on Millennials and Generation Z, we apply eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) and SHapley Additive Explanations (SHAP) to identify key socioeconomic determinants of teenage driver's license attainment. Our findings reveal consistent predictors across both generations, including the percentage of licensed family members, household income per capita, educational attainment, and public transit ridership. We identify meaningful dose-response relationships, such as the increasing influence of licensed household members beyond a 0.75 threshold and the …

Volume 17 is a ont! article effort. Professor Kenneth Holmes has been studying the activities of Sir Francis Drake for some time now. Several things are apparent. First, the literature on Drake is confusing and somewhat contradictory, particularly with respect to the voyages in the north east Pacific Ocean. Second, although Holmes Is an historian, his work generally falls in the area of exploration and most certainly his "proofs" are tied directly to the work of geographers.
