Formation Mechanism Of Coal Seam Aquifer And Water Hazard Control Technology, Wang Hao
Coal Geology & Exploration
Coal seams occur in Peat formation formed by sediments, often used as aquiclude or aquitard in coal production. However, in Barapukuria coal mine in Bangladesh, No.VI coal seam is rich in water, shows a typical hydrogeological phenomenon that the coal seam becomes an aquifer, which is rare in coal mining process both in China and abroad. From the formation mechanism of coal and the microstructure and tectonic development characteristics of coal, the structure of rich in water of coal was revealed. Based on MTS815 rock mechanics test system, the permeability of No.VI coal was tested, and the internal structure of …

Water Yield Analysis Of Underground Drainage Boreholes On The Basis Of Logarithmic Normal Distribution, Ma Lianjing, Zhao Baofeng
Coal Geology & Exploration
In order to analyze the distribution rule of water flow from underground drainage borehole in coal mines, histogram, Q-Q chart and nonparametric tests were used to test the logarithmic normal distribution model for water flow from underground drainage borehole in typical working face, and the nonlinear regression model was fitted. Combined with hydrogeological conditions, the parameters in the model were analyzed. The result shows that water flow from underground drainage boreholes in working face obeys the lognormal distritution. The logarithmic mean and standard deviation of water flow from drainage borehole of typical working face have a positive linear dependence relation …

Feasibility Test Of Roof Resistivity Monitoring For Super-High Mining Face, Lu Jingjin, Li Deshan, Wang Bingchun
Coal Geology & Exploration
The failure of roof overburden is one of the main reasons for water inrush in mining working face. Roof resistivity monitoring by mine electrical method can be used to detect overburden failure dynamically. However, roof resistivity monitoring for super-high mining face has many problems, such as audio electromagnetic signal by conventional methods is difficult to penetrate through wide working face, burying of roof monitoring electrodes is difficult, monitoring electrode in the roof of air return lane is hard to protect, and so on. In order to solving these problems, feasibility study of roof resistivity monitoring for super-high mining face is …

Coal Geology & Exploration
In order to control the problem of water channeling in the process of coalbed methane(CBM) production, based on the self-designed test device and method, the test data of the shear strength at cement-aquiclude interface (CAI) is obtained under the conditions of well inclination of 0°, 30°, 60° and 90°. The mechanism of the influence of inclination angle on the shear strength at CAI is analyzed. The results show that the shear strength at CAI decreases with the increase of the inclination angle. The reason is that as the inclination angle increases, the upper part of the mud cake ring becomes …

Wavenumber-Dependent Complex Refractive Indices Of Synthetic Motor Oil By Aerosol Extinction Spectra, Daniel Olesak
DePaul Discoveries
Wavenumber-dependent, complex refractive indices, or optical constants, in the mid-infrared for unused Pennzoil 0W-20 motor oil have been obtained from aerosol extinction spectroscopy at room temperature. The oil’s spectroscopy is dominated by carbon-hydrogen stretching modes similar to those observed in spectra for pure alkanes. These same characteristic features were observed in a previously reported motor oil study. The optical constants retrieved here are an addition to the small number of data sets in the scientific literature for organic compounds many of which are components of aerosols present in the lower troposphere, particularly in urban areas. Such data offer new perspectives …

Design And Testing Of A Reciprocating Wind Harvester, Ahmet Topcuoglu
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Renewable energy sources are vital to reduce dependence on fossil fuels that are harmful for the environment and release greenhouse gases causing global warming. Wind energy is a natural source of energy that is abundant in the environment. While wind turbines are most popular, convenient, and used to harvest energy at large scales, there have been recent studies focusing on harvesting energy from the wind for microdevices. Such micro wind energy harvesters can decrease dependence on batteries.
In this study, a novel, framed flag micro wind harvester was designed and tested, and its behavior at three different wind speeds was …

Quantifying Methane Emissions In The Uintah Basin During Wintertime Stagnation Episodes, C. S. Foster, Erik T. Crosman, J. D. Horel, Seth Lyman, B. Fasoli, R. Bares, J. C. Lin
Bingham Research Center
This study presents a meteorologically-based methodology for quantifying basin-scale methane (CH4) emissions in Utah’s Uintah Basin, which is home to over 9,000 active and producing oil and natural gas wells. Previous studies in oil and gas producing regions have often relied on intensive aircraft campaigns to estimate methane emissions. However, the high cost of airborne campaigns prevents their frequent undertaking, thus providing only daytime snapshots of emissions rather than more temporally-representative estimates over multiple days. Providing estimates of CH4 emissions from oil and natural gas production regions across the United States is important to inform leakage rates …

This research presents the development of linear regression models to predict horizontal photovoltaic power output. We collected a dataset from 14 global Department of Defense (DoD) installations over a timeframe of one year using an experimental apparatus, resulting in 24,179 usable data points. We developed a linear model to predict power output, which incorporated site-specific weather and geographical characteristics, along with Köppen-Geiger climate classifications in order to determine the effect of adding climate to the model. After performing a Wald test between the full model and a reduced model without Köppen-Geiger climate variables, it was determined that including Köppen-Geiger climate …

LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
Light Detection and Ranging (Lidar) data are used to report the temporal and spatial patterns of subsidence as well as the potential contributors to subsidence within the Barataria and Terrebonne Bays. In recent decades, subsidence in southeast Louisiana has become a topic of substantial and growing concern to the scientific community, the local residents, and all those invested in the region. Lidar data were acquired from the United States Geological Survey (USGS) and the LSU Center for Geoinformatics. The data has been manipulated to map the differenced Lidar, complete an instantaneous slope analysis, and determine the thickness of the Holocene …

Master of Science in Energy Systems Management
An Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) is a tool used by load serving entities (LSEs) to plan how they will meet forecasted energy demand and system reliability requirements through a combination of supply-side and demand-side resources. The goal of an IRP is to identify the lowest cost option to meet future load while also adhering to policy requirements. For Public Service Company of Colorado’s (PSCo) IRP process, a suite of generating resources, storage capacity, and demand-side management programs are all considered when developing a plan that meets state and utility regulatory requirements and environmental targets.
In 2016, PSCo’s system peak demand …
