The Impact Of Assertiveness And Religiosity On The Expression Of Dissent Among U.S. Immigrant Nigerian Workers, Peter Osiabia Azorji

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

AbstractScholars have studied dissent in general, but few have focused on the impact of cultural contexts and characteristics on dissent. Literature on the influence of cultural factors on expression of disagreement in organizations, by immigrant Nigerian workers in the US has not received adequate attention. There is therefore a compelling need to bridge this gap. This quantitative nonexperimental correlation study examined the impact of assertiveness and religiosity (variables that may be influenced by culture), on expression of minority dissent among Nigerian immigrant workers in the United States. The inquiry was based on two theoretical models: Bourhis et al.’s interactive acculturation …

Fairness, Emotional Intelligence, And Ethical Decision-Making In Customer Evaluations Of Providers, Tameka Austin

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Customer satisfaction is a topic that organizations must focus on for the success and continued sustainability of their organizations. Emotional intelligence, fairness, and ethical decision-making are areas that businesses must address to identify how their businesses are impacted by the choices that customers make when working with corporations. The gig economy (short- or long-term project in which a contract worker is hired to perform a specific task or long-term consultant assignment) is an area that has not been addressed to a great extent by psychology researchers. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between emotional intelligence, ethical …

Perspectives Of Individuals With Acquired Neurogenic Communication Disorders And Co-Survivors On Person-Centered Care Within Speech-Language Therapy, Logan Macrae Ellis

Online Theses and Dissertations

Main Argument: Acquired brain injury impacts 2.8 million individuals each year in the United States (Taylor et al., 2017). Stroke, traumatic brain injury, tumor, infection, and other conditions cause life-altering changes to the way humans interact with each other. Social interaction and communication are important in many aspects of life, including but not limited to work, community, relationships, and mental health, etc. Damage to the brain often changes the ability to communicate drastically, which can impact all of the aforementioned aspects of life (Ardila & Rubilo, 2018). Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) address the acquired neurogenic communication disorders associated with brain injury …

A qualitative study design was selected to gather experiences and feedback from occupational therapy graduate students. Participants were recruited via email from a convenience sample of a large, research-based Midwestern occupational therapy program. Participants attended one focus group and …

A Web-Based Intervention Is Feasible For Supporting Weight Loss And Increased Activity In Rural Women With Arthritis, Patricia A. Hageman, Christine Eisenhauer, Joseph E. Mroz, Rebecca Johnson Beller 2021 University of Nebraska Medical Center

A Web-Based Intervention Is Feasible For Supporting Weight Loss And Increased Activity In Rural Women With Arthritis, Patricia A. Hageman, Christine Eisenhauer, Joseph E. Mroz, Rebecca Johnson Beller

Journal Articles: Physical Therapy

Rural women have well documented health disparities, with higher prevalence of obesity and chronic conditions, including arthritis. Change in weight and actigraph-recorded data were examined in a subset of 63 of 82 women with physician-diagnosed arthritis who completed a 30-month web-based clinical trial. Repeated measures analyses showed women lost weight from baseline to six months, slowly regained at 18 and 30 months, ending with a lower weight than baseline F(1,62)=40.89, p<0.001, η2p =0.40. Of 53 women with complete data, activity increased at six months, decreased at 18 months, and increased at 30 months F(1,52)=4.14, p =.04, η2p=0.07. Women showed improved change in weight and activity from baseline at six, 18 and 30 months. This study adds support that web-based programs may promote weight loss and activity in a hard-to-reach, underserved population of midlife and older rural women with arthritis

Theses: Doctorates and Masters

Background: Depression is a common consequence of stroke, and people with aphasia (PWA) post-stroke have a higher risk of developing depression compared to stroke survivors without aphasia. However, current stroke interventions featuring aphasia therapy tend to neglect the effect of the treatment on mood. There is also a lack of evidence on the impact of stroke education and counselling on PWA in early stroke recovery. Additionally, the research on post-stroke depression often excludes or insufficiently describes PWA in study populations. The influence of direct aphasia therapy on depression in PWA is undetermined. This sub-study investigated: i) the effect of …

Biomechanically Inspired Assistive Technology To Restore Movement Of The Upper Limbs After Stroke, Ariel Thomas 2021 West Virginia University

Biomechanically Inspired Assistive Technology To Restore Movement Of The Upper Limbs After Stroke, Ariel Thomas

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

A stroke often damages the neural structures responsible for movement. Stroke is a heterogeneous disease, affecting each survivor differently. There are common motor features of a stroke, but even these features vary across time as an individual proceeds through different stages of recovery. The different ways in which stroke motor impairment can present itself are often overlooked, but these differences are fundamental to the understanding of the disease and its recovery. When motor assessments are capable of acquiring information necessary to parse out a detailed profile of each stroke case, this will lead to an improved neuromechanical understanding of the …
