In recent years, librarianship has been increasingly recognized as a critical component of inter-professional healthcare education. This manuscript describes how innovative coordination between libraries and university healthcare programs can remove the barriers to scholarship for graduate students who enroll in distance education (DE) programs. The authors examined the perceived impact of librarian embedment for DE nursing students graduating with master’s degrees from George Washington University in 2013. Librarians were embedded in the first course in which they were enrolled in 2010 to support the mastery of scientific research skills. Health care providers, including nursing staff who specialize in obesity treatment are not immune to the prevalent negative perceptions of obesity in society. Nurses on medical/surgical units frequently find themselves in a cycle of chasing after their patients' pain. Medical/surgical units historically rely heavily on pharmacological interventions to manage post-operative pain with little focus on non-pharmacological interventions. The development of culturally congruent visual resources on self-care in type 2 diabetes is a culturally appropriate method to provide education to the Native American patients. In particular, the creation of a series of illustrations on foot care is needed. Guided by Leininger's Culture Care Theory and the Sunrise Enabler, materials on foot care are developed through the convergence of emic (generic) and etic (professional) knowledge. Noise is an environmental stressor which is found at increasing levels in hospitals and is a primary annoyance for patients. This environmental pollutant can impair a patient's rest, sleep, and ultimately affect healing. Unwanted noise has been shown to cause sleep disturbance, impair wound healing, trigger hormones affecting the cardiovascular system, immune system, and metabolism as well as perception of pain.
