Problem: Incremental overtime was found to majorly impact the financial well-being of a stroke unit. From an allocated budget of 22 hours per pay period, the unit’s incremental overtime averaged 40 hours. The stroke unit had skilled-mix competencies, further complicating handoffs. The absence of a standard reporting method means that reviewing patients’ charts takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes, extending what should be a quick, but thorough nurse knowledge exchange.

Substance use disorders (SUDs) among pregnant and perinatal women continue to be a national public health crisis. Furthermore, nursing students and perinatal nurses have historically negative and punitive attitudes toward this vulnerable population of women. As nurses are primary care providers for pregnant and perinatal women, this is troublesome as perinatal patients express feeling stigmatized by nurses whom they should be able to trust. BACKGROUND: This project took place at a community-based rural hospital in eastern Kentucky. During completion of a needs assessment, adoption of an evidence-based nursing practice model and improvement of clinical outcomes of the community’s heart failure patient population were revealed as opportunities.

Oncology related hospital visits account for over $88 billion annually; 35% of this cost is attributable to inpatient hospital stays even though most cancer treatments are given outpatient. The specific aim is to improve electronic health record (EHR) data collection to enhance the identification of older adults that are frequent utilizers of the E.D. at a local community hospital in Southern California. At a regional Veterans Administration (VA) hospital, nurses performing case management were unable to perform face-to-face visits with patients due to coronavirus. Care coordination and discharge planning efforts occurred through telephonic case management to preserve personal protective equipment and reduce transmission rates through social distancing. Trust and rapport between patients and nurses were reduced without personal contact. Peplau’s theory of interpersonal relations described six nurse roles and three phases of relationship development required to create therapeutic nurse-patient relationships. Connectedness was a key concept considered to be the path to a successful meaningful therapeutic nurse-patient relationship (Hrabe, 2005).

Incidents of workplace violence (WPV) are pervasive in healthcare settings. WPV in the US occurs four times more frequently in the healthcare sector than in the private sector. However, the true incidence of WPV in healthcare settings is thought to be much higher secondary to significant under-reporting. The American Nurses Association (2019) reports, while one in four nurses are assaulted, only 20-60% of the incidents are reported. This study began with a current review of available research that identified the Millennial generation and their views toward job satisfaction and work engagement, as compared with Baby Boomer and Generation X nurses.

PubMed, CINAHL Complete, and Google Scholar databases were employed to find 15 peer-reviewed articles for evaluation. Background Diabetes mellitus (DM) and depression are important comorbid conditions that can lead to more serious health outcomes. The American Diabetes Association (ADA) supports routine screening for depression as part of standard diabetes management. The PHQ2 and PHQ9 questionnaires are good diagnostic screening tools used for major depressive disorders in Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2).
