The purpose of this capstone project was to deepen my understanding of upper limb prosthetics, observe patient care, and identify gaps in occupational therapy education related to upper limb loss, prosthetic use, and rehabilitation. A key objective was to support the Hanger Clinic by increasing the number of completed Upper Limb Prosthetic User Outcome Forms, as well as to capture photos and videos—separate from this video training series—to contribute to Hanger’s educational library. Introduction:

We evaluated the preclinical curriculum at WSU SOM to determine if there is sufficient coverage of women's health topics and its impact on students’ clinical preparedness. We hypothesized that students perceive inadequate coverage across multiple women’s health disciplines, leading to low clinical preparedness. Knowledge from this study can guide recommended changes to the curriculum.

Methods:

A Qualtrics survey was distributed to the classes of 2024, 2025, and 2026, collecting feedback on women’s health topic coverage, and self-rated comfort with addressing these topics clinically.

Physical activity before and during pregnancy can significantly improve pregnancy outcomes. ACOG’s evidence-based recommendations help healthcare providers (HCPs) educate patients regarding the benefits of exercise during pregnancy. However, many patients do not engage in regular physical activity. We aim to determine how provider counseling on exercise per ACOG recommendations impacts patients’ exercise and perception of exercise during pregnancy.

One study revealed that Black women have a 1 in 3 chance of developing cancer with a 1 in 6 chance of mortality. Research has shown a lower breast cancer screening adherence among women in cultural minorities and faith-based communities. BACKGROUND: Surgery remains a male-dominated field, and mediating factors for this discrepancy remain ill-defined. Little research has explored the experience of female medical students in surgical clerkships, which can exert strong influence over career choice. This study investigates whether disparities in clerkship experiences contribute to this gender gap.

METHODS: US medical students were surveyed on a variety of measures, including clerkship experiences, via the 2022 and 2023 AAMC GQ surveys. Differences in response pattern between male and female students were analyzed with chi-squared tests.

Recent advances in small-joint arthroscopy and cutting-edge magnetic resonance imaging systems have enabled orthopedic surgeons to perform more complex repairs of the wrist. Such repairs can include those of the triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) of the wrist that necessitates a reappraisal of its morphometry with special emphasis on the relationship between its articular disc (AD) and surrounding tissues. The TFCC AD is a fibrocartilaginous, biconcave structure located between the ulnar styloid process and the carpal bones of the wrist. Nurses are under attack. 80% of nurses have experienced some form of workplace violence (WPV), which is seen as “part of the job.” Unfortunately, the agency responsible for protecting nurses, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), only offers voluntary guidelines. We have determined that nursing students are the best group to educate about WPV prevention in healthcare. Including this teaching to fit within their pre-clinical requirements, only needing one faculty to teach with an average salary of $80k, to further help set what should be foundational skills. Introduction. Learning disabilities result from genetic and neurobiological factors that alter brain function, such that cognitive processes related to learning are affected. Hidden disabilities can be defined as a non-apparent chronic condition that interferes with a person’s activities of daily living.
