• The 2022 transition from numerical to pass/fail scoring for USMLE Step 1 and COMLEX Level 1 has changed the way medical students perceive their competitiveness.
• In a 2020 report, it was found that Osteopathic students were more likely to see the transition as negatively impacting their residency match and specialty choice.
• With the belief that residencies will now place greater focus on extracurricular achievements, attention to medical student research has increased since the transition.

In October 2022, COVID-19 vaccine coverage for two doses in NJ was 77.4%. This exceeded the US national average of 67.8%. However, initial booster uptake remained low at only 50% statewide, and bivalent booster uptake was just 16.8% by March 2023. South Jersey, including Gloucester County and Glassboro, contains large marginalized populations that have experienced barriers to vaccination access, misinformation, and skepticism regarding government and pharmaceutical intentions. Teaching Students To Provide Effective Feedback With The Situation-Behavior-Impact (Sbi) Framework, Steve Garwood

Formal training in delivering effective feedback is often absent in educational curricula, despite its critical role in professional development, particularly within medical education. This study implemented a one-hour virtual workshop designed to enhance medical students' feedback proficiency. Participants engaged in activities to identify attributes of effective feedback and applied the Situation-Behavior-Impact (SBI) framework. Post-workshop data demonstrated significant improvement in participants': 1) knowledge of effective feedback qualities, 2) ability to provide actionable feedback, and 3) comprehension of the SBI framework. These findings suggest that targeted interventions can effectively equip students with essential feedback skills.

Child sex trafficking is a significant issue in New Jersey, with minors making up 22% of trafficking victims in 2023. While screening tools exist to identify at-risk youth, there is a major gap in understanding the steps healthcare providers should take after identification to ensure appropriate care, support, and referrals. Current research highlights the lack of data on the use of trafficking screening tools and the absence of standardized post-screening protocols. Introduction:Stigma is a social classification that devalues individuals or groups, and occupational stigma targets entire professions. Psychiatry is particularly affected, often viewed by the public and medical community as lacking scientific rigor and prestige. This negative perception has far-reaching consequences.

In 2020, the ACGME merger unified the residency match process for MD and DO applicants into a single, standardized system. The merger aimed to promote equity in graduate medical education by streamlining training pathways and matching processes across applicant backgrounds.

Despite the merger’s goal of standardization and equity, disparities in ophthalmology match outcomes between MD and DO applicants may persist.

Background: Medical schools employ various curricula to foster medical knowledge and professional competencies. Emotional intelligence (EQ)—the capacity to manage emotions and interpersonal relationships—is essential in clinical care. While research links EQ to academic and communication skills in nursing and international medical students, limited data exist for U.S. medical students, particularly regarding curriculum type.

Objective: This study evaluates whether different curricula—Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and Synergistic-Guided Learning (SGL)—are associated with differences in EQ and interpersonal communication skills (ICS) at Rowan-Virtua SOM.

This study aims to examine the language used in physician-written works that address how physicians in different medical specialties treat the aging and the terminally ill, and how they view the deceased. CONTEXT: Medical education in the United States has undergone significant changes, specifically within the osteopathic community. In 2020, a merger occurred between the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), forming a single accreditation system (SAS) for graduate medical education and residency placement, with the purpose to create consistency within graduate medical education and to provide equal opportunities for applicants pursuing all specialties in medicine. Genetic counseling graduate programs are required to provide didactic coursework and fieldwork experiences to foster development of the practice-based competencies (PBCs) in trainees. Currently, every graduating trainee must log a minimum of 50 participatory encounters to demonstrate readiness for entry-level practice of the PBCs. Previous studies have noted that many trainees exceed the 50-case standard, raising the question of whether this minimum satisfies the training needs of every student.
