This thesis will be highlighting the condition known as Xerostomia. Xerostomia is the condition also known as “dry mouth”. This condition affects many people all throughout the world with symptoms causing bad breath, discomfort, difficulty speaking and many other. The seriousness of this condition can lead to cardiovascular disease, dementia, respiratory infections, diabetes mellitus, rheumatoid arthritis, and even cancer (Absolutedental.com). Currently there is not any one specific solution for the condition although many have been proposed. Through this quality improvement project, we have assessed the current fellows' upper endoscopy skill level during their first year and determined that the time to achieving proficiency is significantly longer than desired. The goal is to prepare new fellows for endoscopy prior to the beginning of their rotations with a curriculum that includes assigned reading materials, videos, and simulated endoscopic cases, to promote safety and increase satisfaction of patients by improving the readiness, skill level, and the confidence of first year inexperienced fellows.

From their inception, virtual worlds have attracted educators from many disciplines, and benefits for both students and educators for networking and immersive experience have been well documented. But, while virtual world education has engaged multiple disciplines to learn with, from, and about each other, the potential for innovation in interprofessional education (IPE) has not been fully realized. This paper outlines ways to re-vision IPE using a flexible learning framework to develop, implement, and enhance virtual world training programs.

The goal of this project is to provide a means for Audiologists, Speech-Language-pathologists and related personnel to improve their ability to communicate and connect with culturally Deaf individuals through the use of video-animated sign-language interpretations. Arguments for or against the bilingual approach of using ASL and the spoken language with regards to Deaf education will be discussed through both a personal memoir and a review of current literature. Approximately 5.7 million people in the United States are living with dementia, with numbers expected to rise to 13.8 million by 2050 As prevalence grows, it is crucial to train future providers to meet the complex and diverse needs of patients and caregivers. Virtual reality (VR) is a growing tool in medical education, but few studies explore this tool for dementia education. This paper evaluates senior nursing students’ knowledge and attitudes of medication errors and reporting errors. This study was conducted to evaluate a need for improvements to nursing education on these two concepts. This mixed method study was conducted using a modified version of the Medication Administration Error Reporting Survey by Wakefield, Uden-Holman, and Wakefield (2005) and focus group sessions at four nursing programs in the Southern United States. Medication errors continue to be a threat to patient safety and underreporting exists due to the stigma surrounding admitting a mistake. Specifically, what are the strategic curricular sequencing and curricular themes or focus might be included to contribute to producing high quality graduates? The purpose of this qualitative multiple case study investigation was to look at successful programs and identify effective curricular sequencing and curricular themes or focus that might be inferred to have contributed to producing high quality graduates. Medical trainees are at particular risk for stress-related illness, including mental health problems such as suicidal ideation, substance abuse, and mood disorders. A vast literature on mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), consisting of mindfulness education and structured meditative practices, has consistently demonstrated that MBSR and related mindfulness-based interventions improve mental and physical health, as well as one’s overall sense of well-being. Moreover, theorists and researchers have begun to suggest further that mindfulness plays a particular role in social cognition, or social-emotional learning. Developing an Institutional Repository and Addressing Privacy Issues” will explore privacy issues in terms of patient health information that have emerged as Oregon Health & Science University expands their institutional repository beyond theses and dissertations. The lighting talk presentation will focus specifically on student projects from the physician assistant program, School of Nursing, and the Northwest Native American Center, a center specifically focused on the health care needs of Native Americans in the U.S. The impact of a migration out of Bepress and into Samvera will also be discussed.

Oncogenesis is an extremely complex phenomenon. The mechanisms by which cancer is induced is only partially known. Consequently, therapeutic targets may be uncertain and results are often unsatisfactory. The purpose of this paper is to develop a trans-level and multiple transdisciplinary perspective describing the kaleidoscopic reality of oncogenesis. This manner of understanding oncogenesis as a complex process characterized by a non-linear dynamic, far from equilibrium and with unpredictable evolution, transcends the classical perspective and requires a paradigm shift. The question often asked of a quality improvement initiative is whether the improvement process has been sustained within the organization. Rarely is the question answered satisfactorily. The sustainability of an improvement process is important as it justifies the investment of human and financial capital. The term 'evaporation of improvements' addresses the dilemma that between 33% to 70% of all innovations are reportedly not sustained (Fleiszer, Semenic, Ritchie, Richer, & Denis, 2015) .
