Problem: Teaching genetic diagnosis is required in all medical schools and physician assistant programs. However, with thousands of relevant findings and thousands more rare diseases, lectures and narrative resources are inadequate for the task. Whatever information that is taught is easily forgotten and does not carry over into the clinic. Many rare disease patients suffer through “diagnostic odysseys” (3 to 30 years to correct diagnosis). Purpose: Interprofessional education (IPE) across the health professions learning continuum is suggested to prepare health professionals for interprofessional collaborative practice (IPCP) through development of necessary attitudes, knowledge, behaviors, and skills. The purpose of this study was to investigate the flow-on effects of previous IPE experiences across the learning continuum on existing IPCP skills and behaviors in healthcare professionals. Methods: A retrospective observational study design was used to survey a convenience sample of healthcare professionals working in IPCP clinics about their self-reported team and collaboration skills via the pre-existing Team Skills Scale (TSS) and Self-Assessed Collaborative Skills (SACS) tools. Burnout is a common experience among physicians and has been identified as a precursor to substance abuse and suicide ideation. When not addressed, burnout can have many negative personal, relational and professional consequences. Research about the burnout experience is limited due to the taboo nature of the topic. The present study used a multiple goals theoretical perspective to examine how physicians disclose burnout in order to access social support. Attending physicians from various specialties (N = 30) participated in one-on-one interviews and were asked to discuss their burnout experience, conversational goals during burnout disclosure, catalysts and barriers for disclosure, and …
