Zero Balancing In The Chiropractic Practice, Michele Doucette Dc

Journal of Transformative Touch

Discovering the profound gifts of the leading-edge structural and energetic manual therapy Zero Balancing (ZB), and adding it to my chiropractic and nutrition practice, has unified my personal growth with the sustainability of my professional practice. Much of humanity is starving for wholeness, authenticity, and meaningful connection with ourselves, others, and something greater. Chiropractors are well positioned to be leaders in a true evolution of healthcare, especially if, as we continue to explore the various branches of our therapeutic repertoires, we stay connected to our vitalistic roots that are now more supported than ever by new findings in the fields …

Workplace Violence Interventions: A Benchmark Project, Madison Orwosky 2021 University of Texas at Tyler

Workplace Violence Interventions: A Benchmark Project, Madison Orwosky

MSN Capstone Projects

Workplace violence incidence rates are increasing in the medical field. The staff in the emergency department (ED) is especially prone to these workplace violence events due to patients arriving in such unpredictable states. Alarmingly, most medical staff members report experiencing some type of workplace violence, whether that is verbal, physical, or sexual violence. The former director of the Parkland ED sent out a survey to the ED staff regarding workplace violence. Out of 145 participants that completed this survey, 121 participants reported that they had personally experienced a workplace violence event. This survey data illuminates that a change is warranted …

This study evaluated the impact of an infographic on patient recall of health information during a medical service trip. During two service trips in May 2018 and May 2019, patients with a history of high blood pressure from an underserved community in the Dominican Republic received an anonymous four-question pre assessment evaluating their knowledge of high blood pressure prevention and treatment. The provider then educated the patients about high blood pressure prevention and treatment using an infographic. The patients received an identical post-assessment. The median total scores for 2018 and 2019 were 75% on the pre-assessment versus 87.5% on the …

Healthcare For All Colors: Anti-Racism In Medical Professions, Elise Wang 2021 Butler University

Healthcare For All Colors: Anti-Racism In Medical Professions, Elise Wang

BU Well

Racism in the United States' healthcare system has a longstanding history and exists at both the macro and microlevel. Medical professionals have a responsibility to be anti-racist in their practices. Healthcare providers and organizations can create a more equitable and beneficial medical experience for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) patients through anti racism praxis, increasing the health literacy of patients, and shifting power to patients to equalize the provider-patient dynamic. While these initiatives cannot bring the systemic change needed to fully eradicate racism from medicine, it will join providers and patients together in the fight against interpersonal, and …

Many students do not receive any, much less comprehensive, sex education during their high school years. Universities should prioritize integrating sex education curriculum into their first-year student experience. Promoting sex-positive dialogues will foster a campus community of communication and acceptance.

A Capstone In Education: Current Challenges For Occupational Therapist Clinicians Transitioning To Role Of Academician, Jacie Schneider

Department of Occupational Therapy Entry-Level Capstone Projects

The doctoral capstone I participated in for my entry-level Doctor of Occupational Therapy program was in a focus area of education with a mentor who was a professor in a master’s program. I supported my mentor in her role as a professor of a physical dysfunction intervention course and had the opportunity to present a module to students on wheelchair seating interventions. Using experience gained during my capstone as well as information learned during the review of literature, I created a guide for OTs interested in making the transition into academia to meet the capstone project requirement.

A Descriptive Study Of Health-Related Risks And Outcome Differences By Loneliness Status In A Sample Of Older Veterans, Rachael Beard 2021 University of Missouri-St. Louis

A Descriptive Study Of Health-Related Risks And Outcome Differences By Loneliness Status In A Sample Of Older Veterans, Rachael Beard

Dissertations

There is a need to understand the influences and outcomes related to loneliness in veterans living with complex illness. Patients require self-care to manage complications and exacerbations associated with complex illness. Deficits in self-care result in negative health outcomes and drive resource utilization upward. The identification of potential factors related to self-care is important. Loneliness may be one factor that influences patients’ ability and desire to care for themselves. Descriptive correlational design was used to evaluate loneliness both as a predictor and outcome in veterans admitted to the hospital for three complex respiratory illnesses (heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, …

Culture And Occupational Therapy, Kaitlyn Domingo, Becki Cohill, Susan Macdermott, Karen Park

Spring 2021 Virtual OTD Capstone Symposium

The purpose of this capstone project was to develop a cultural intelligence program for occupational therapy practitioners (OTP[s]). However, due to the results of the project’s research component, this capstone shifted to addressing a potential need for a global shift in the occupational therapy (OT) process and diversifying the content and dissemination of cultural training courses.

A mixed-methods survey was conducted to assess 45 OTPs’ confidence levels with delivering culturally intelligent care, their means of overcoming cultural barriers in clinical practice, and to collect anecdotes on the process of becoming a culturally intelligent practitioner.

Four primary research themes are developed …

An Analysis Of The Behaviors Used By Physicians And (Pre)Medical Students To Cope With Stress, Carter Bracht 2021 University of Nebraska-Lincoln

An Analysis Of The Behaviors Used By Physicians And (Pre)Medical Students To Cope With Stress, Carter Bracht

Honors Program: Senior Projects (Public)

Physicians (both practicing and resident) in the U.S. are experiencing high rates of burnout and mental health issues because of the stressors related to their career and the lack of coping mechanisms in practice by these physicians. As a population, physicians normalize internalization of their stress as members of a “proud” community. This study sought to examine the positive, negative, and positive addiction coping mechanisms that physicians use to relieve job-related stress using the following coping domains: emotion-oriented, task-oriented, and avoidance-oriented coping. We further sought to examine stressors and coping mechanisms that are introduced in (pre)medical school and how they …

Medical School To Residency: How Can We Trust The Process?, Gary L Beck Dallaghan, Irene Alexandraki, Jennifer Christner, Meg Keeley, Sorabh Khandelwal, Beat Steiner, Paul A Hemmer

Faculty, Staff and Students Publications

Background To say that the transition from undergraduate medical education (UME) to graduate medical education (GME) is under scrutiny would be an understatement. Findings from a panel discussion at the 2018 Association of American Medical Colleges Annual meeting entitled, "Pass-Fail in Medical School and the Residency Application Process and Graduate Medical Education Transition" addressed what and when information should be shared with residency programs, and how and when that information should be shared. Materials and Methods Over 250 participants representing UME and GME (e.g. leadership, faculty, medical students) completed worksheets addressing these questions. During report-back times, verbal comments were transcribed …
