Sleep is fundamental process that benefits health and overall quality of life which can be affected by various aspects of daily living such as dehydration. A study has yet to investigate the impacts of euhydration and mild dehydration on sleep. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to examine effects of euhydration, mild-dehydration, and ad libitum drinking on sleep. Following intense exercise, there is a period of time where performance is decreased. This period of reduced performance is characterized by several factors including myofibrillar disruption, reduced range-of-motion, inflammation, and an influx of enzymes and proteins. Cannabidiol (CBD) has been marketed as a recovery supplement capable of reducing markers of fatigue and inflammation following exercise, yet this claim has not been investigated. The circadian rhythm is an internal process of the brain that regulates the sleep-wake cycle. Outside environmental factors can affect the circadian rhythm such as light and dark. In microgravity, astronauts witness the sun rise and set approximately 16 times per day. A disruption (desynchronization) of the circadian rhythm may then occur, with some astronauts reporting to be less alert and unable to sufficiently complete tasks. ABSTRACT PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of different resistance exercise protocols on cortisol, heart rate, and perceived exertion. METHODS: Eight males and eight females (age = 21.8 ± 2.6) performed three randomly assigned exercise protocols on three separate occasions: low-intensity resistance training (RT) exercises with blood flow restriction (BFR) at 20% of one repetition maximum (1-RM) (BFR20), moderate-intensity RT exercises with BFR at 40% of 1-RM (BFR40), and traditional high-intensity RT exercises at 80% of 1-RM (HI80). He began to experience these symptoms after a football injury and was seen by a doctor who referred him to a sports medicine specialist one month after the injury. Hemoglobin concentration has been shown to increase immediately after maximal-duration apneas in both divers and untrained individuals. Relatively few studies have examined how apnea training programs influence hemoglobin concentration in untrained individuals. PURPOSE: To examine how a two-week maximal duration breath-hold training program, consisting of five maximal duration voluntary apneas per day, would change hemoglobin concentration in healthy adults. ABSTRACT Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) has several comorbidities such as cardiovascular disease, elevated lipid profile, microvascular complications, and impaired metabolic flexibility (MF: the ability to switch substrate use upon stimulation). Further, healthy Caucasians with a family history of T2D (FH+) have impaired MF similar to T2D, suggesting impaired MF could be an early-detection tool to identify at-risk populations.
