Diadema savignyi spine extract in an experimental setup using L929 cell line in vitro. The cell metabolic activity of L929 cells is tested through an MTT assay. The sea urchin spine extract is applied to the cells in two concentrations: 100 μg/ml (136% viability) and 200 μg/ml (95% viability). The bioactive components of the sea urchin spine are identified via GC-MS, and the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities are evaluated using catalase assay (CAT), glutathione (GSH), and nitric oxide (NO) tests. Results show that the GC-MS identified bioactive components including the anti-inflammatory and anti-irritant bisabolol oxide and the pro-inflammatory oleic acid. …

PURPOSE: Variability in contouring structures of interest for radiotherapy continues to be challenging. Although training can reduce such variability, having radiation oncologists provide feedback can be impractical. We developed a contour training tool to provide real-time feedback to trainees, thereby reducing variability in contouring.
METHODS: We developed a novel metric termed localized signed square distance (LSSD) to provide feedback to the trainee on how their contour compares with a reference contour, which is generated real-time by combining trainee contour and multiple expert radiation oncologist contours. Nine trainees performed contour training by using six randomly assigned training cases that included one …

Purpose
This study shows the impact of a 3-part population health and interprofessional education (IPE) curriculum on Physician Assistant (PA) students’ knowledge and experience of population health and systems thinking (PHST) and to promote a team-based approach to patient care and improve patient health and preventative services.
Methods
Human Resources and Services Administration funded a 5-year Primary Care and Training Enhancement grant in PHST. With this funding, the Department of Family and Community Medicine developed a three-part plan emphasizing interprofessional learning. The impact was measured using a 22-item survey measuring knowledge and experience of PHST delivered to PA students annually. …

INTRODUCTION: Research findings and knowledge translation are typically disseminated via presentations at professional meetings and publication in peer-review journals. However, other opportunities to translate research evidence into practice exist, including the use of visual cues.
AIM: The aim of this paper is to describe the collaborative process of translating key research findings into a clear and compelling visual communication tool.
DESIGN: As part of a multimodal research dissemination strategy, the researchers partnered with the University Health Communication Design Program faculty to develop a visual communication strategy to promote the use of antibiotic time-outs by nurses in a health system. An …

Journal of Community Hospital Internal Medicine Perspectives
Eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) also referred to as Churg-Strauss syndrome is a rare vasculitis of the small to medium vessels. We present a rare case of acute coronary artery dissection brought on by EGPA, which generally has a poor prognosis. A 41-year-old male with history of bronchial asthma presented to the emergency room with a 2-week history of dyspnea, cough with clear phlegm, and fever. For the past eight months he had experienced episodes with similar symptoms relieved by steroids. CT chest showed bilateral upper lobe patchy opacities with extensive workup for infectious etiology being negative. He had peripheral …

Purpose: Vestibular/balance screeners can improve the efficiency of the diagnostic process. Despite prior literature illustrating the importance of screeners, research suggests that many professionals do not utilize screening protocols. Methods: Thirty-two audiologists and thirty-four physical therapists completed an electronic survey with questions regarding the use of screeners and the referral process. The survey examined variables surrounding the use of vestibular/balance screeners among audiologists and physical therapists, including frequency of use, commonly used screeners, and factors affecting the use or non-use of screeners. Results: Physical therapists utilized vestibular/balance screeners statistically more often and used a larger variety of screeners compared to …
