Dr. Parker is Professor of Medicine, Pediatrics and Public Health at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. For over two decades, her work has focused on research, education and advocacy efforts to advance our nation’s health literacy. She is an author of the Test of Functional Health Literacy in Adults (TOFHLA) and of the definition of health literacy used by Healthy People 2010, the IOM, the NIH, and the Affordable Care Act, as well as many scholarly pieces on health literacy. Purpose: The purpose of this descriptive, qualitative study was to identify and describe the importance of the predictors of juvenile recidivism and the effectiveness of efforts to prevent/avoid juvenile recidivism as perceived by previously detained, arrested, convicted, and/or incarcerated adult students 18 years of age and older exiting from alternative education in Northern California. A second purpose was to explore the types of support provided by alternative schools and the perceived importance of the support to avoid recidivism according to adult students 18 years of age and older exiting from alternative education.

Facilitators of these programs are reaching emotional thresholds where they feel ill equipped to handle the psychological needs of group participants. The research presented on this poster explored the impact of extraprofessional education on undergraduate nursing and speech-language pathology students with an overall goal of improving the interprofessional relationship between the two fields. Utilizing quantitative and qualitative methods in the form of a pre-test, educational materials, live guided observation, and post-tests, the researchers found an increase in the nursing students ability to identify the role of the speech-language pathologist in a medical setting. There was also an increase in the speech-language pathology student’s ability to understand how and when to communicate with nurses in a medical setting.

A mass casualty exercise was performed to investigate triage and decontamination of patients exposed to an irritant gas. Nursing students participated in two groups: emergency department triage (ED) and decontamination (DECON). While participants felt overall that the experience was valuable, DECON participants had a greater interest in emergency response and were more likely to volunteer again.

Background: Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a virus that can infect both males and females, potentially causing genital warts, vaginal, cervical, anal, and vulvar cancers. According to CDC guidelines, the HPV vaccine can be given to boys and girls age 9 to 26 (CDC, 2017). Although cases of HPV have dropped as the number of HPV vaccinations rise, vaccine rates are still far below the Health People 2020 target of 80% coverage. With current rates of 49.5% coverage in females, and 37.5% in males through 2017, it is evident that current routes of vaccine education are not adequate (CDC, 2017).

This dataset contains the results of a Readiness for Interprofessional Learnings Scale (RIPLS) pre-test and post-test that was administered in association with a health professions course in inter-professional education (IPE). Between 2016 and 2018, 251 surveys were collected from medical and nursing students at the University of Miami who participated in a one-day course on inter-professional education. All 251 participant surveys were entered into the data file. 245 surveys were complete and used in the study analysis. The survey is comprised of demographic questions, followed by 19 pre-test and 19 post-test questions assessing student perceptions of IPE. The excel spreadsheet …
