Interprofessional collaboration, consultation, and cooperation have long been a direct and indirect professional responsibility of human services practitioners in integrated healthcare settings. In order to effectively educate and train practice-ready human services students for rapidly changing healthcare settings, it is critical that human services organizations and programs examine the need for interprofessional competency education. This article provides timely considerations on developing interprofessional education competencies in human services education.

We conducted a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to obtain validity support for the Consultation Skills Scale (CSS) in a sample of 369 counseling professionals and interns. Upon obtaining a poor model fit from an initial CFA, we utilized modification indices and removed nine items from the CSS. As a result, we achieved a better model fit for the shorter 8-item instrument (CSS-S). To further examine validity of the CSS-S, we also explored the relationships between counselors' consultation skills and two related professional activities, ability to foster supervisory working alliance and ability to engage in interprofessional collaboration. The purpose of this study was to assess health care professional’s interprofessional collaborative competencies and attitudes towards working in teams and to examine if differences exist between professionals who have completed formal interprofessional education (IPE) and those who have not. This study was guided by the Interprofessional Learning Continuum Model.

Background: Research suggests deficits in shoulder and elbow strength and flexibility may explain the role of elbow injuries in overhead athletes, specifically ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) injury in baseball players. Significant damage to this ligament typically requires operative care for continued activity in the sport. Several studies have demonstrated the success of rehabilitation programs post-surgery; however, few studies have examined the role of UCL injury prevention programs. This paper offers insight into the University of Akron Wellness Wednesday Program, an interprofessional organization of campus students and faculty that present wellness programming to three off-campus housing developments: Edgewood Village, Belcher Apartments, and Saferstein Towers I. The residents of these complexes receive wellness programming from many different disciplines for six months of the year, and then experience a large, four-month gap when the university breaks for summer. The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of a “learn first, practice second” intervention on the nutrition-related knowledge, attitudes, and self-efficacy of multidisciplinary health professionals in West Virginia, specifically highlighting the Mediterranean Diet. Data was captured via online surveys at four time points (Baseline, Post-education, Post-immersion, Follow Up). All information was self-reported. This approach consisted of 16 weeks of online education, 2 weeks of cultural immersion in Tuscany, Italy, and a 7 month return to practice period. Nosocomial diseases are a serious concern and detriment to hospitals’ abilities to provide appropriate patient care. Bearing this in mind, an effort must be made to determine whether infection surveillance and control programs have reduced the rates of nosocomial infection at U.S. hospitals.
