This study took place in Puerto López, Manabí, Ecuador and focuses primarily on the level of knowledge the townspeople have about dengue and how it is transmitted. It also looks at the incidence of dengue in the town and across neighborhoods. In order to carry out this study, I spent a month living in the coastal town of Puerto López and interviewed 50 townspeople – 10 in each of the five neighborhoods of Jonas Gonzalez, Miraflores, Luís Gencón, San Alejo, and the central neighborhood. The Multi-Network Practice and Outcomes Variation Examination Study (MPROVE) supports six participating public health practice-based research networks (PBRNs) in selecting a common set of service delivery measures for use in analyzing geographic variation in delivery across local communities. This report presents results from an expert panel Delphi survey used to rate candidate measures on a set of selection criteria, in order to select the final set of measures for study.

Among the potential changes invoked in discussions on health system transformation, a need to revitalize primary care remains paramount. One way of doing this, most agree, is to move more in the direction of team-based care. Professionals such as physician assistants and nurse practitioners may be able to ease some of the physician’s clinical care load, but some populations also need help accessing services and basic health education in a familiar setting. This study explored post-migration experiences of recently migrated Pakistani Muslim adolescent females residing in the United States. In-depth, semi-structured interviews were conducted with thirty Pakistani Muslim adolescent females between the ages of 15 and 18 years living with their families in Houston, Texas. Data obtained from the interviews were evaluated using discourse analysis to identify major reoccurring themes. Participants discussed factors associated with the process of adaptation to the American culture. The results revealed that the main factors associated with adaptation process included positive motivation for migration, family bonding, social support networks, inter-familial communication, aspiration of adolescents to learn other …

Genomic DNA was purified from Multiple Myeloma Cell Line JJN3, and BMF promoter region was PCR amplified and cloned into pCR 2.1 TOPO vector using One Shot® Chemically Competent E. coli. After confirmation of the clone through polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and restriction analysis, BMF promoter (2.5 Kb) was released from TOPO vector and subcloned into pGL3 promoter vector. The resulting pGL3-BMF-promoter vector was further amplified for MaxiPrep preparation. This plasmid can be used to study the regulation of BMF promoter by various transcription factors including NF-κB family members.

Objective: Many hospitals are investing in computer-based provider order-entry (POE) systems, and providers’ evaluations have proved important for the success of the systems. The authors assessed how physicians and nurses viewed the effects of one modified commercial POE system on time spent patients, resource utilization, errors with orders, and overall quality of care. Design: Survey. Measurements: Opinions of 271 POE users on medicine wards of an urban teaching hospital: 96 medical house officers, 49 attending physicians, 19 clinical fellows with heavy inpatient loads, and 107 nurses.
