Chronic pain has become a public health epidemic. As pain complaints increase, so does the potential for drug abuse/misuse. Prescription drug monitoring programs (PDMPs) are active in 49 of the 50 states to assist providers in recognizing drug abuse/misuse. There is no clear standardization of who utilizes the PDMP and how. Little is still known about the ways PDMP results are incorporated into clinical decision making, what barriers exist, and how providers may or may not alter their prescribing plans based on the results. Introduction: The ability to function as an effective member of the healthcare team is essential for graduate nurses upon entry into practice. Team training is therefore, an important element of nursing education. A convenient and cost-effective approach to providing team training to nursing students is through the TeamSTEPPS® curriculum. The purpose of the study was to determine if an intentional integration of TeamSTEPPS® principles into simulation-based team training modules would improve attitudes toward teamwork in a cohort of undergraduate nursing students. With nearly 30 percent of Medicare beneficiaries opting to enroll in Medicare Advantage (MA) plans instead of fee-for-service Medicare, it’s safe to say the MA program is quite popular. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) administers a Star Ratings program for MA plans, which offers measures of quality and service among the plans that are used not only to help beneficiaries choose plans but also to award additional payments to plans that meet high standards. Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery is one of the most frequent and expensive cardiac surgical procedures in the U.S. today. Complications from CABG surgery are one of the top causes of 30-day hospital readmissions. Readmissions after CABG surgery are often preventable and add to health care costs. Recent government legislation mandates penalties for hospitals with excess readmission rates. The purpose of this evidence-based practice project was to determine if implementation of best practice recommendations effected 30-day readmission rates following CABG surgery. The health care delivery system in the United States has received increased attention over the last 2 decades. Concerns of access, choice, cost, and quality have been in the forefront. This study was conducted to assess the leadership behaviors of hospitals’ chief executive officers and how they impact the performance of hospitals. Two instruments were used to collect the data for the study: the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ-5X; Avolio & Bass, 2004) and a demographics questionnaire. There is a paucity of knowledge regarding the impact of the Affordable Care Act (ACA, or Obamacare) on low-income, primarily Latino populations. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the role of a free clinic in the post-Obamacare environment. The sample population (n=62) for surveying was composed of patients at Clínica Esperanza/Hope Clinic (CEHC), an inner city clinic in the Olneyville neighborhood of Providence, RI. Basic demographics, along with information regarding motivation for visiting the clinic and satisfaction with the clinic’s patient care, were collected. The patients of CEHC are primarily of central american (57.6%) and hispanic/latino descent (87.9%). …

The aging population in Connecticut currently represents ~15% of the state’s population but is anticipated to rapidly increase over the next 20 years. My thesis is an examination of the types of interventions and programs currently available for elderly persons with memory impairment and cognitive decline, as well as the challenges associated with caring for a larger elderly population. The purpose of this study was to explore student athletes’ perceived satisfaction of care from certified and licensed athletic trainers (ATC) and satisfaction of care between full time and graduate student ATCs at University of Nevada, Las Vegas (n=61).
