The Effect Of Caffeine On Anaerobic Exercise, Nelson Gonzalez

Kinesiology Student Research - Archive

Caffeine is one of the most socially acceptable performance enhancement drugs used by athletes and is one of the most widely studied ergogenic aids by sports scientists. The effect caffeine has on exercise performance is well founded, generally eliciting a dampening of perceptual response during exercise allowing the athlete to perform at a higher level. However, in comparison to aerobic performance, less research has been conducted on the ergogenic potential on anaerobic performance. Most research has been conducted through the use of the Wingate anaerobic test (WAnT), which determines anaerobic power. The WAnT requires the subject to pedal a cycle …

Correlation Between Body Fat Percentage And Maximal Exercise (Vo2max) In Collegiate Female Track Athletes, Jennifer Campos 2012 University of Texas at Arlington

Correlation Between Body Fat Percentage And Maximal Exercise (Vo2max) In Collegiate Female Track Athletes, Jennifer Campos

Kinesiology Student Research - Archive

A VO2max test is used to determine the rate of utilization of oxygen which is a measure of cardiorespiratory endurance and aerobic fitness. A relative VO2max is expressed according to body weight in milliliters of oxygen consumed per kilogram of body weight per minute. The amount of body fat we maintain is dependent on diet, exercise, and heredity. Body fat can be measured by several different methods. Hydrostatic weighing determines body fat percentage through the displacement of water and is considered the gold standard in most Exercise Science Programs.

Comparison Of Body Composition, Aerobic And Anaerobic Fitness In Competitive Level Soccer Players With Regards To Position Played, Samantha Maserang 2012 University of Texas at Arlington

Comparison Of Body Composition, Aerobic And Anaerobic Fitness In Competitive Level Soccer Players With Regards To Position Played, Samantha Maserang

Kinesiology Student Research - Archive

Body composition can be thought of in several different terms. Body Mass Index (BMI) and body fat percentage (%bf) are the two most popular. The BMI is determined from the height and weight only, but the body fat percentage takes the age and ethnicity into account along with the actual measurement to estimate %bf. Body composition and aerobic and anaerobic fitness among high school age female soccer players has not been studied very extensively. Some studies have been conducted to examine body composition, but did not compare the positions each subject played or include the fitness level.

Predictors Of 3pq And Quickboard Performance In Power-Oriented Collegiate Athletes, Brendan Putney

Honors Scholar Theses

The measuring of athletic performance via pre participation experiments has been the norm for a long time from high school sports, all the way to professional athletics. These tests help gauge an athlete's physical growth over the offseason, as well as aid in predicting their potential performance in the future. However, performance may diminish as multiple maximum effort assessments are completed due to fatigue. The purpose of this study was to examine targeted assessments for possible novel qualities as performance predictors. Baseline data was taken from a larger performance enhancement study for analysis. Twenty-six men (age: 25+4 yr; height 1.78+0.07m; …

Cholesterol Lowering Effects Of Milk With Added Phytosterols, Laura Kells Cusack

Master's Theses

Foods incorporating plant sterols (PS) reduce Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) on average approximately 10%. PS with a higher lipid solubility may promote greater reductions. We examined the cholesterol lowering effect of a novel triglyceride recrystallized phystosterol (TRP). Twenty subjects (mean ± SD; age, 56 ± 10 years; BMI, 27 ± 5) with elevated LDL (>100 mg/dL) participated in three 4-week phases; Phase I, 2% milk; Phase II, milk with 2.0 grams (g) free PS; Phase III, milk with 2.0 g TRP. Before and after each phase two fasting blood draws were obtained for determination of serum cholesterol. Between the 2% …

The Effect Of Garlic Supplementation On Flow-Mediated Dilation After Acute Maximal Exercise, Leslie C. Redmond

Masters Theses, 2010-2019

Antioxidative compounds found in garlic may overcome exercise-induced oxidative stress (OS) and attenuate any associated decrease in endothelial function, perhaps leading to performance improvements in high intensity exercise. The purpose of the current study was to investigate whether or not a single dose garlic supplement induced positive changes to flow-mediated dilation (FMD), a measure of nitric oxide mediated endothelial function, in young, trained adults before and after maximal exercise. Maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max) was measured to determine if any changes in FMD were associated with performance improvements. A total of 11 trained participants (aged 20.64 ± 2.25 yrs) were included …
