The Psychological Effects Of Exercise, Judith Rodin, Thomas G. Plante Jan 1989

The Psychological Effects Of Exercise, Judith Rodin, Thomas G. Plante

Psychology

Thousands of businesses in the United States have implemented programs to promote physical fitness among their employees (Falkenberg, 1987). The programs range from company-paid memberships at private health and fitness clubs to complete work site fitness facilities. These programs have been developed not only to improve and maintain employee health but also to promote psychological well-being and productivity and to reduce absenteeism, insurance claims, and stress. Recent research focusing on the use of employee fitness programs to improve work-related behaviors suggests that these programs may improve absenteeism, job satisfaction, tenure. and health care costs, especially among female employees (Baun, Bernacki, …

Trotter Review

Another racial myth came tumbling down in the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, Korea. Blacks had never before been prominent in swimming competitions at the national level in the United States or at the international level. Several theories about the bone structure and body mass of black people have been offered to explain the absence of blacks on the victory stands at these top competitive levels. But at the 1988 Olympics Anthony Nesty, a black man from Surinam (South America), bested Matt Biondi, swimming’s golden boy in those Olympics, to win the 100-meter butterfly.

Trait Competitiveness Of Starters And Non-Starters In N.C.A.A. Division I Basketball, Curtis Harold Gunnink

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

The purpose of this study was to examine trait competitiveness in N.C.A.A. Division I male basketball players to determine if a significant difference could be found between starters and non-starters. It was hypothesized that players that usually start (starters) a game will have higher trait competitiveness scores than players that usually do not start (non-starters) a game.

The design of this research project was quasi-experimental. The independent variable was whether the subject was a starter or a nonstarter on a N.C.A.A. Division I basketball team. The dependent variable was trait competitiveness as measured by the Sport Orientation Questionnaire (SOQ) (Gill …

A Comparison Of The Accuracy Of Two Volleyball Forearm Passing Techniques, Vonda Mae Broek Jan 1989

A Comparison Of The Accuracy Of Two Volleyball Forearm Passing Techniques, Vonda Mae Broek

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

The purpose of this study was to compare the accuracy of the linear and non-linear forearm passing techniques used to recieve [sic] the serve in volleyball. A subproblem was to determine the extent to which each technique was used among selected NCAA Division I universities. The research design was causal comparative. The study sought to determine the relative effectiveness of the non-linear and linear serve reception techniques in passing accurately to a prescribed target area. Ten NCAA Division I universities provided twenty videotaped volleyball matches. The type and accuracy of the serve reception pass was observed and tallied. Passes were …
