The Commission on Civil Rights presents this report pursuant to Public Law 85-315, as amended. The report summarizes the testimony given at Commission hearings and at open meetings of the Commission's State Advisory Committees concerning urban racial problems. The testimony-generally given by persons who live in slum ghettos or who deal with ghetto problems daily-provides insights into what slum residents think and feel about the conditions in which they live. The Relationship Of Educational, Economic & Social Characteristics Of The Degree Of Desegregation In The Public Schools Of Kentucky, J. Frank Yeager

The problem in this study was to examine the relationship of social-climate to the degree of desegregation in the public schools of Kentucky. This study attempted to determine the relationship of educational, economic and social characteristics of those school districts with bi-racial student bodies operating in Kentucky and the degree of desegregation experienced voluntarily by those districts during the period from 1955-56 school year through the 1963-64 school year.

The purpose of this thesis is to present a body of data concerning segregated housing facilities for Negroes in Detroit. It will attempt to cover both the historical development and the present situation of segregation. Considerable emphasis will be placed upon the typology and construction of restrictive covenants. The functions of various community organizations in the area of housing problems will also be examined. There will be some effort at prediction of future trends. The motivations and social psychological forces behind segregation will, of necessity, be given only cursory treatment.
