Living Kinky, Carrie Kahl
Living Kinky, Carrie Kahl
Thinking Matters Symposium Archive
Current research around BDSM bondage-discipline, domination-submission (BDSM) and kink often serves to pathologize behaviors we now recognize as part of a healthy sexual expression for individuals, couples, and poly groups alike. Kink can be defined as sensual, erotic, or otherwise sexual behaviors that are considered unconventional within the context of a society, and while these behaviors have been depathologized with the release of the DSM-V, much of the existing research has been slow to reflect these changes.
Through a phenomenological approach this study offers a glimpse into the lived experience of five self-identified kinky individuals (n=5) with consideration of their …

El Impacto De Los Centros De Investigación En La Comunidad / The Impact Of Research Centers In The Community, Ciera Cockrell
El Impacto De Los Centros De Investigación En La Comunidad / The Impact Of Research Centers In The Community, Ciera Cockrell
Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection
This paper serves to investigate how centers of investigation function to alleviate issues of inequality in a community. In this particular case, opportunities, or lack there of, of quality and accessible education will be analyzed as the issue of inequality. In Chile and in the broader context of the world, many students are excluded from quality education simply because of their socio-economic status, race, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation. These issues of exclusion and discrimination in education are imbedded into a system that has become more about serving the wealthy instead of treating education as the right that it is. …

Student Engagement Curriculum For The Philadelphia Gay Men's Chorus, Michael Angelo Caban
Capstone Collection
This paper is a guide for a student engagement curriculum for the Philadelphia Gay Men’s Chorus(PGMC). Included are the theoretical frameworks for youth empowerment and development, Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Trans, Queer/Questioning, and more (LGBTQ+) empowerment, and intercultural training design and facilitation that are at the center and the considerations an intercultural trainer and youth programmer and facilitator should constantly regard. The main purpose of this is to put forth a document that PGMC, as well as any group or organization, can use to empower LGBTQ+ young people, as well as their straight allies, and to develop leaders in their schools …

The Gender Wage Gap And The "Motherhood" Effect, Adrianna Decicco
Honors Senior Capstone Projects
This paper discusses the gender pay gap and how motherhood is a major factor toward the inequalities in the workplace. For this paper, the wage gap is defined as the difference between men and women’s yearly income consisting of hourly or salary wages, overtime, benefits and bonuses. It should be noted that men earn more in every category of work, even the categories that are female-dominated professions.
(Video) Reframing Discourse: Using Brfss Data To Deconstruct Influences Of Parenthood On Depression And Lgbtq+ Mental Health, Kate Luxion
GW Research Days 2016 - 2020
Introduction: Rates of depression contribute to the mental health epidemic, with parents in the United States considered a population at greater risk. Framing of mental health and depression has remained centered on cisgender, heterosexual identities (cis-heteronormative) despite diversity in family constellations. This presentation looks to reframe and expand the discussion on LGBTQ+ parents, depression, and mental health. The hypotheses tested look first at the differences in depression diagnosis. Second, the number of poor mental health days per month are examined for differences between the subsamples.
Methods: The study reviewed data from the 2014-2016 BRFSS surveys (n=371,268) focused on parents as …

Improving Primary Care Utilization For Transgender Patients At An Fqhc, Timothie J. Rochon, Dnp, Rn, Cnm
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Background: Transgender and Gender-Nonconforming (TGNC) populations comprise approximately 6% of the U.S. population. Socially and within the medical treatment system TGNC individuals face widespread stigmatization and discrimination which negatively impacts their mental, physical, and emotional health and contributes to health disparities. Real and perceived barriers to safe and effective healthcare are worsened by the scarcity of primary care providers knowledgeable in caring for these populations.
Objectives: The aim of this quality improvement project was to examine the impact of inclusive gender-affirming integration on the utilization of preventive and primary care services.
Methods: A one group pre- and post-intervention design was …
