The Economic Impact Of Non-Profit Arts Organizations In Nebraska, 1976-1977, Murray Frost, Garneth O. Peterson

What are the arts worth to Nebraska? Until recently no information has been available to answer that question. The arts provide an important cultural contribution, but they also support the economy by employing people, renting buildings, and purchasing supplies and services. The intangible attributes of artistic endeavors are commonly recognized. Economic contributions, however, have received little attention.

The Attraction Of Interstate Radial Freeway Corridors For New Office Sites, Murray Frost, Armin K. Ludwig
Publications
This paper discuses the impact of Interstate radial freeway corridors upon the location of new office developments in the 1970-76 period in seven United States cities. Data indicated that in each of the seven cities, greater growth occurred outside of the downtown Core than in it. Growth of the office sites compared to previous development ranged from 12% to 110% in the Cores with an average of 24%, compared to 106% to 307% for non-Core areas with an average of 207%. Growth expressed in terms of gross square feet had a similar pattern. Of the 1970-76 office development, the greatest …

The Structure Of Employment In The Omaha Smsa: Estimates And Projections By Industry And Occupation, Center For Public Affairs Research (Cpar), Edward W. Hauswald

The structure of employment by industry and occupation in the Omaha Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area (SMSA) 1 has been changing. Trends in various industries and occupations in the Omaha SMSA do not, however, differ ·significantly from national trends. Agricultural employment is increasing in absolute numbers, but represents a declining proportion of the Omaha SMSA labor force, as is true for the nation. Similarly, employment in the manufacturing sector has become less and less important as a proportion of all employment. State and local government and retail trade employers have all had continued long term upward increases in employees, both in …

This issue of Review of Applied Urban Research features "Newly Delineated Suburban Areas Set Omaha Economic Pace."
Since the Spring of 1974, the Center for Applied Urban Research, with the support of the Economic Development Council of the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce, has monitored the demographic and economic development of the Omaha area. A major portion of . this development has now moved into areas peripheral to the Omaha City limits. In order to examine this expansion, CAUR has redefined its subareas to monitor more closely the growth trends in both the central and outlying portions of the Omaha …

Identification And Analysis Of Growth Occupations And Entry Level Positions In The Omaha Smsa With Special Attention To Minimal Training, Center For Public Affairs Research (Cpar)

Manpower planning creates a special need for information that identifies growth occupations or positions and entry level and/or para-professional positions which require minimal training. Estimates and projections of employment by industries and by occupations have been presented and analyzed elsewhere with emphasis upon general trends in such employment in the Omaha SMSA. In order to have a more specific understanding of local developments, additional information as to recent past and current occupational developments is desirable. An attempt to obtain such information was made by means of a survey of employers in the Omaha SMSA in August-September, 1977. The specific objectives …

Often the case revolves around a question of custody, and whenever the court decision results in changes of family circumstances the consequences may be greatest for the child. Any delay in recognizing an error in a custody decision or in establishing permanent custody intensifies the psychological stress and may even endanger his physical well being. …

This issue of Review of Applied Urban Research features "Small Banks of Nebraska and Iowa: An Examination of Some Variations in Performance," by E.J. Steele.
The United States is a nation of small banks. In 1975, the median size bank had between $15 and $20 million of demand and time deposits.1 Since banking structure is determined in large part by state regulations, the number and sizes of banks vary a great deal among the states. Table 1 shows the number of banks in Nebraska, Iowa and surrounding states in 1975. Nebraska had 448 banks and ranked eleventh in the …

Consumers of suburban office space are faced with location decisions which do not challenge consumers of Central Business District (CBD) office space. Those consumers who choose not to locate in the CBD are confronted with a myriad of site characteristics and a wide variety of transportation linkages not only to the CBD but …

Betty Abbott (a registered Republican) was favored by 58 percent of the registered Republicans willing to disclose their choices, and AI Veys …
Radial Freeways And The Growth Of Office Space In Central Cities, Armin K. Ludwig
Radial Freeways And The Growth Of Office Space In Central Cities, Armin K. Ludwig
Publications
Seven metropolitan areas were studied to determine the impact of freeways upon the location of office development and to estimate the economic impact of this development upon the community. Findings indicated a suburbanization of office space. New locations were heavily influenced by radial freeway corridors although circumferential corridors were proportionately more attractive (1970-1976 office site growth rates of 562% and 273% respectively, with 101% for non-interstate radial corridors). Freeways which increased accessibility of office workers and improved access to vacant land tended to attract office development; investment funds often were more readily available for radial freeway sites. Other factors--price of …

This issue of Review of Applied Urban Research features "Economic Impact of Non-Profit Nebraska Arts Organizations," by Murray Frost.
The value of a community's theatre and dance groups, art galleries, symphony and other performing and visual arts is usually assessed from the perspective of the community's cultural life. The organizations which promote and facilitate artistic development are usually perceived in relation to their value only to the artists and their audiences. However, the artists and their organizations also contribute to the economy of their communities through salaries to employees, consumption of supplies, rent and purchase of facilities, and use of …

This issue of Review of Applied Urban Research features "Socioeconomic Status and Educational Expenditures in Nebraska," by Robert Henningsen.
In the study of political science it is easy to become preoccupied with the descriptions of political institutions, behaviors and processes. Therefore, political scientists have frequently overlooked the importance of socioeconomic forces in shaping public policy. There seems to be no great mystery in accounting for public policy by looking inside the political system. However, the relationship between socioeconomic forces and public policy is less clearly understood.

This issue of Review of Applied Urban Research features "Metropolitan Omaha Condominium Directory, 1977," by Tom McCormick.
Although the terms condominium and townhome are commonly used interchangeably, they refer to related and yet distinct concepts. Condominium refers to a title concept under which the owner of a domicile holds title to the living space but not to the land surrounding that space or the land upon which the living space is situated . The land is jointly owned by members of the owners' association who share the responsibility for maintenance, improvement, and control of common areas. The condominium concept can …

The unique diversity of our cultural heritage and background is slowly but surely being recognized as a valuable asset for our country, one to be cherished and shared. But the very richness and diversity of our heritage make it difficult for the classroom teacher or the college professor to acquire an understanding of the many groups who have contributed so much to the development of our nation.

September unemployment rates in all 25 areas were lower than the United States rate, which declined from 8.1 percent during September of 1975 to 7.4 during September of 1976.
