Poverty is experienced by many developing countries like Indonesia and nowadays it is centered in rural areas. Therefore, PT Nestle as part of the private sector has an obligation to support and help solve poverty experienced by the state. The manifestations of these efforts are to support community empowerment through Budi Luhur Dairy Farmers Group --- as one of the strategies to reduce poverty. Why is it focused on dairy farmers? This essay will focus on ways the ELSJ Core Curriculum requirement and TNI enact the Jesuit way of proceeding to promote dialogue and critical engagement with underserved communities in order to contribute to the common good. Particularly important in these community-engagement practices is attention to the distinction Jewish theologian Martin Buber draws between the subject-object knowing, I – It relationships, characteristic of traditional university learning, and I -Thou relationships possible through “genuine meeting,” “genuine dialogue,” leading to wholeness and “real living,” “actual life.”12 Buber’s description of I - Thou encounters is reminiscent of the relational encounters with God outlined in …

This paper offers a descriptive analysis of the suffixes -@, -x, -e and other orthographic innovations as transgressions to the genderedness of Spanish language. First I discuss the grammatical rules of expressing gender in Spanish and a summary of the ongoing debates concerning linguistic sexism and androcentrism in Spanish language. Then I present some examples of the gender neutral suffixes drawn from articles found in 3 “Do It Yourself” journals published online by three anarchist collectives in Latin America.

Beyond The Movement: State Action In Addressing Campus Sexual Violence, Amijo Wadena
Political Science Theses and Capstones
The "Me Too" movement, started by actress Alyssa Milano, has helped shine a light on the prevalence of sexual harassment and sexual violence throughout the country. While it has helped the public understand the magnitude of the issue, it has only started the conversation about sexual violence. And while the focus has mostly been on Hollywood, there has been one area that is being overlooked; sexual violence on College and University campuses. With Secretary DeVos' repeal of Obama era policies, the current administration is being a lot less transparent when it comes to sexual violence, in general. With policy-making responsibility …
Developing Mutual Accountability Between Teachers And Students Through Participation In Cogenerative Dialogues, John L. Beltramo
Developing Mutual Accountability Between Teachers And Students Through Participation In Cogenerative Dialogues, John L. Beltramo
Teacher Education
In this study, I explore cogenerative dialogues as potentially supportive spaces for the development of mutual accountability and reciprocal learning between teachers and students, even within contexts dominated by high-stakes accountability and its associated challenges. In cogenerative dialogues, teachers gather with small groups of their students outside of instructional time to discuss classroom teaching and environment and to construct plans by which to improve student learning and wellbeing. Through a design-based case study, I worked with two science teachers, Lorena and Ellen, from urban high schools to establish and enact weekly cogenerative dialogues with their students over a period of …
Examining The Strategies Of Formation And Action Among Social Movements: A Comparison Of The Civil Rights Movement And Black Lives Matter, Hailee Saxton
Political Science Theses and Capstones
In today’s tumultuous political landscape, the question of what makes an effective social movement? is often asked. This can be a complicated question to answer as social movements vary greatly across racial, ethnic, economic, and political boundaries. Therefore, I am conducting a case comparison of two widely-known socio-political organizations, the Civil Rights Movement and Black Lives Matter. In this comparison I will examine whether or not they truly fit the definition of a social movement, look at the strategies of action that have or could prove successful in enacting long-standing socio-political change, and make recommendations on how movements could continue …

How Do Native American Women Win Elections In Non-Native Districts?, Opalina Peralta
Political Science Theses and Capstones
In light of the recent tensions between Native American tribes and non-tribal elected leaders over such issues as environmental protection and treaty violations, caused in part by the United States' disproportionately Caucasian electoral representation, I aim to bring light the obstacles that Native Americans face in electoral politics. I analyze state legislative elections in which Native American candidates win. Using the data from the 2016 National Census and from University of North Dakota, Professor Mark Trahant. I hypothesize that the reason many Native American candidates win is because they are tied to non-native elements of the community. The two candidates …

Not For You, Not For Me, But For Us, A Case Study That Examines The Battersea Arts Centre's Co-Creation Models And How This Generates Symiosis Between Their Community And Organisational Resilience., Katharine Marchingo
Staff Scholarship - Australia & Dubai
There is much to learn from the Battersea Arts Centre (BAC) who remains at
the forefront of international arts practice despite the temporary loss of capital
infrastructure due to a tragic fire. This resilience is in part due to BAC’s
organisational model and investment strategy; but these aspects are only as strong
as organisational culture and community support allow them to be, these are
much harder to design and more nuanced in application
(Jubb Personal Interview 23 March 2018).
