In the professional education of mental health practitioners, including occupational therapists, there has been a lack of meaningful inclusion of people labeled with mental illness into curricula, beyond guest speaker panels and presentations. This study explored the experiences of students, faculty, and ‘Experts by Experience’ within a mental health occupational therapy course that incorporated Experts with lived experience as co-facilitators of weekly fieldwork debriefs. The study utilized focus groups and interviews to understand the experiences of students, mental health faculty, and ‘Experts by Experience’. Country music has long overlooked and at times outright erased the contributions of people of African descent. The past and present contributions of Black women are particularly ignored. Country music— a racially contested space centered in Nashville, Tennessee— is imbued with themes referencing the “good ole days” that were dangerous times for anyone who was not White, male, cisgender, and heterosexual. The genre has only become slightly more welcoming to those who are not part of the dominant class. And yet, there are Black women who feel called to use country music as their storytelling medium. Factors That Contribute To Perceptions Of Police-Civilian Interactions, Shelby Wynne

Perceptions of police-civilian interactions have been found to be impacted by the perspective in which they are viewed, with first-person perspectives eliciting negative perceptions of civilians and positive perceptions of police. However, the nature of the relationship between race and camera-perspective has not been fully explored. Black people are more likely to harmed by police at a disproportionate rate compared to White people, and consequently, have more negative perceptions of police. Three studies investigated what factors informed perceptions of police encounters, particularly when camera perspectives differed. Over the last few decades, yoga has become a multi-billion-dollar industry in the West. This industry is typically represented by glossy photographs of thin white women in physical postures. Given its religious origins in South Asia, this mass marketing of yoga has raised important questions about Western commodification and cultural appropriation. As a result, counter-movements have emerged to “Take Back Yoga” and “Honor the Cultural Roots of Yoga.” This thesis analyzes a range of critical-constructive responses to the commodification and colonization of yoga. Neoliberal education reforms have altered the way social justice is imagined in relation to schooling. These reforms reframe social justice as ‘equity’ through conceptions of standards, evidence and teacher quality, while detracting attention from the moral and political dispositions required for socially-just teaching. Knowing more about how this context may be shaping the beliefs of pre-service teachers (PSTs) is important. การวิจัยเรื่อง “แนวทางการปรับปรุงกระบวนการยุติธรรมทางอาญาเพื่อคุ้มครองสิทธิผู้เสียหายคดีข่มขืนกระทำชำเรา” มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาสภาพปัญหาในการปฏิบัติต่อผู้เสียหายในการดำเนินคดีข่มขืนกระทำชำเราในประเทศไทย และศึกษาแนวทางในการปรับปรุงกระบวนการยุติธรรมทางอาญาเพื่อคุ้มครองผู้เสียหายคดีข่มขืนกระทำชำเราในประเทศไทย โดยใช้การวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ ด้านการวิจัยเอกสารและเทคนิคการสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึกผู้ให้ข้อมูลสำคัญ จำนวน 10 คน จากบุคลากรในกระบวนการยุติธรรม สหวิชาชีพที่เกี่ยวข้องกับกระบวนการยุติธรรม เครือข่ายภาคประชาสังคม และนักวิชาการกฎหมายและกระบวนการยุติธรรม ผลการศึกษาพบว่า สภาพปัญหาในการปฏิบัติต่อผู้เสียหายในการดำเนินคดีข่มขืนกระทำชำเราในประเทศไทย เกิดจากสภาพปัญหาหลัก 5 ด้าน คือ 1) ด้านผู้เสียหาย 2) ด้านสังคม 3) ด้านกฎหมาย 4) ด้านกระบวนการยุติธรรม 5) ด้านคุ้มครองสิทธิ ทั้งนี้ จากงานวิจัยค้นพบว่า กระบวนการยุติธรรมทางอาญาในปัจจุบันยังคุ้มครองสิทธิผู้เสียหายคดีข่มขืนกระทำชำเราไม่ครอบคลุมเพียงพอ จึงควรปรับปรุงกระบวนการยุติธรรมทางอาญา โดยเริ่มตั้งแต่การให้ความสำคัญต่อสิทธิผู้เสียหายคดีข่มขืนกระทำชำเราอย่างชัดเจน รับรองสิทธิผู้เสียหายคดีข่มขืนกระทำชำเราด้วยการบัญญัติกฎหมายไว้เป็นการเฉพาะ เพิ่มความเชื่อมโยงระหว่างหน่วยงานในกระบวนการยุติธรรมเพื่อลดขั้นตอนที่ทับซ้อน สร้างองค์ความรู้แก่บุคลากรในกระบวนการยุติธรรมด้วยการจัดทำคู่มือแนวทางการปฏิบัติงานเพื่อที่จะได้ปฏิบัติต่อผู้เสียหายคดีข่มขืนกระทำชำเราได้อย่างเหมาะสม ทำให้ผู้เสียหายคดีข่มขืนกระทำชำเราลดสภาวะการตกเป็นเหยื่ออีกครั้ง และเต็มใจให้ความร่วมมือกับกระบวนการยุติธรรมในการนำตัวผู้กระทำความผิดมาลงโทษสมดังเจตนารมณ์ของกฎหมาย

Refuting falsity is crucial. At the same time, there are instances when fighting false information does not work (Ardèvol-Abreu et al., 2020; McIntyre, 2018; Van Bavel et al., 2021). This dissertation is an examination of the limited number of Pacific Islander students that advance from high school to higher education. It also examines the percentage of Pacific Islander students that attend higher education, but do not acquire their degree. Pacific Islander students informally recognize the dominant United States culture and curriculum as not culturally relevant and colonizing in nature. Thus, they struggle to adhere to colonizer culture and rely heavily on their culture (true culture), which has a set of norms that do not align with American cultural values. Latine immigrant households often face housing instability due to language barriers, immigration status, and limited access to government resources. Oregon farmworkers experience additional obstacles to safe and stable housing caused by low wages, a lack of affordable housing options, and social isolation. In light of the identified needs and lack of equitable access to resources that this group experiences, the Evicted in Oregon research team conducted focus groups with Latine immigrant and farmworker tenants in Multnomah, Washington, and Marion Counties. With nearly a quarter of Canada's population comprising migrants (Statistics Canada, 2022), understanding their adjustment is critical. The study sought to explore the impact of the New York State “Bail Reform Act of 2019,” in rurality. It examined some of the legislative goals of the law, the claim that it caused crime, and offender experiences in rurality. Secondary data was used to map the rural crime landscape and primary data was collected from offenders during face to face interviews. The study was framed using deterrence and opportunity approaches and situated within the broader field environments; legislative, courtroom, and community. This paper traces an expanded ethical perspective for youth and community work (YCW) practice in response to the climate and biodiversity crises. Discussing ecological ethics, we problematise the liberal humanist emphasis on utilitarianism and reject it as inappropriate for YCW in these times. Instead, we argue for an ecocentric practice ethic which intrinsically values the non-human world. To advance an ecocentric ethical perspective for YCW we draw on decolonial and posthuman theory. Inspired by a Freirean dialogical approach, we apply these theoretical domains as lenses to problematise YCW practice, seeking a generative dialogue between perspectives. People tend to underestimate others’ environmental values, including when judging the values of minority-status groups. Using a large national sample (N = 5110), we test whether these misperceptions extend to concern about climate change in Australia, and differ depending on immigrant status, ethnicity, and where one is located (i.e., in or outside capital cities). We also examine the consequences of misperceptions for self-efficacy and pro-environmental behaviour. We find personal climate concern is high, but perceptions of others’ concern is lower. Immigrants and Australian-born participants have similarly high concern, but both groups underestimate how concerned immigrants are. Southern-Central-Asian identifiers are the …

Given the systemic nature of gender-based violence in Canada, as well as the increasing popularity of Latin dance, it is important to better understand the particular and culturally-specific ways gender-based violence manifests itself within the Latin dance community. This research study examines the lived experiences of women of colour with gender-based violence in the Toronto and Kitchener-Waterloo Latin dance communities. Transgender students who attend these schools experience both governmental spaces and religious ones. Background: As the prevalence of intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) has increased over time, more youth with IDD will be transitioning into adult care. Individuals with IDD have a spectrum of behavioral, medical, adaptive, and home/community support needs depending on their cognitive ability, behavior concerns, mobility impairment, and/or medical complexity. Unfortunately, data suggests that adult primary care providers often lack knowledge about the condition-specific medical and adaptive needs of the IDD population leading to decreased access to adequate primary care.

As grizzly bears (Ursus arctos horriblis) begin to reoccupy more of their historic range, and as humans and large carnivore populations continue to increase, incidences of human carnivore conflict are on the rise. A decolonial curriculum designed in collaboration with the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribe’s wildlife biologists stands to increase awareness of Indigenous ecological knowledge and teach youth about the importance of coexistence with carnivores. As the inaugural issue of my tenure as Editor-in-Chief, Volume 6 deepens our understanding of responsibility in the context of the criminal justice system, thereby fulfilling IJR’s aim and scope. Dr. Krystal Hans is an assistant professor of forensic entomology in the Department of Entomology. Dr. Hans teaches courses on forensic science and forensic entomology, including the “Forensic Investigation” (ENTM 22810) course, where a major component of the course is a cold case project. The cold case project focuses on accessing information about an unresolved case and trains students to engage with empathy as advocates for victims while developing skills in research, digital and information literacy, submission of a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, designing infographics, and public speaking.
