Japanese Society and Culture

This study aims to identify the association between public service motivation (PSM), job satisfaction, and other factors using ordinary least squares and quantile regression analyses. The following findings were clarified by analysing survey data from approximately 1,600 special ward employees. Job satisfaction, affective organisational commitment, and job performance are positively associated with PSM. Second, job stress and PSM are negatively associated with PSM. Third, there is a stable positive association between affective organisational commitment and PSM regardless of whether affective organisational commitment is high or low. Purpose: The purpose of this mixed methods study was to identify to what extent newly employed classified staff in K–12 school districts in Southern California experienced organizational tactics (content, context, and social) to support their socialization process during the 1st year of employment (G. R. Jones, 1986). In addition, it was the purpose of this study to identify and describe the degree to which newly employed classified staff saw these tactics as effective in supporting their socialization to their new role (role clarity, social acceptance, and task mastery).

DeepSeek has rapidly expanded globally on a large scale through the open-source model, prompting various sectors to reflect on the value and significance of open-source. This study argues that open-source is an effective way to build consensus and organize high-density talent, as it is supported by objective laws. These include sociological principles such as breaking knowledge monopolies and promoting knowledge dissemination, as well as economic principles like “transaction cost” and the “Jevons effect”. In recent years, the world has witnessed a backlash against globalization and a rise in populist and nationalist movements around the world. However, there appears to be little empirical research concerning how these movements, and especially nationalist sentiment, actually influence trade. Therefore, we explore how and when nationalist sentiment within a country influences trade. Our results indicate that the effect of nationalist sentiment on imports is mediated by lower participation in free trade agreements (FTAs) but not via tariffs. California faces unprecedented uncertainty about how much revenue the state will raise from a package of taxes on motor fuels and annual registration fees on light-duty vehicles that was established in 2017 by Senate Bill 1 (SB 1). The SB 1 taxes are by far the largest source of revenue that the State of California generates to support maintenance, operations, and improvements for state highways, and the funds also contribute substantially to local transportation and public transit budgets.
