Self Persuasion As A Function Of True And False Confession, Barry A. Stevens
Self Persuasion As A Function Of True And False Confession, Barry A. Stevens
All Master's Theses
Colored slides were established as the discriminative stimuli for "truth" and "lying." Experimental subjects were commanded to emit both positive and negative statements in the presence of these stimuli concerning previously established neutral picture-slides. Subsequently, the real opinion of each subject was recorded. The hypothesis that those statements made in the presence of discriminative stimuli would effect judgments was not supported. The only significant main effect was that of the command variable. Suggestions for further study were given.
The Social History Questionnaire As Related To Length Of Stay In Psychotherapy, David P. Jachim
The Social History Questionnaire As Related To Length Of Stay In Psychotherapy, David P. Jachim
Masters Theses
A serious problem encountered in clinical practice concerns the large proportion of clients who begin therapy but for various reasons terminate treatment after only a few interviews and without the consent of the therapist. Representative studies by Kurland (1956), Haddock and Mensch (1957), and Rosenthal and Frank (1958) have emphasized the severity of this problem by indicating that most mental health clinics face the possibility of losing half of their therapy clients prematurely.
This problem necessitates some objective means for identifying potential terminators and remainers prior to their entering therapy. Such a technique would permit a more efficient utilization of …
The Effect Of Labeling Disfluencies As 'Stuttering' And Contingent And Yoked "Wrong" On The Disfluencies Of Normal Speakers, Dennis Ray Staines
The Effect Of Labeling Disfluencies As 'Stuttering' And Contingent And Yoked "Wrong" On The Disfluencies Of Normal Speakers, Dennis Ray Staines
Dissertations and Theses
A labeling variable suggested by Wendell Johnson's "diagnosogenic" theory of the onset of stuttering was included in this study of the disfluencies of normal speaking college students in order to explore further the hypothetical relationship between normal disfluency and the onset of stuttering. A total of 60 Ss were randomly assigned to the following groups, each containing 10 Ss: I. Labeling Chastisement plus Contingent "wrong;" II. Labeling Chastisement plus Yoked (non-contingent) "wrong;" III. Labeling Chastisement - No "wrong;" IV. No Labeling Chastisement Contingent "wrong;" V. No Labeling Chastisement - Yoked "wrong;" VI. No Labeling Chastisement - No "wrong" …

Psychological Components In Chronic Urticaria, David L. Blumenthal
Psychological Components In Chronic Urticaria, David L. Blumenthal
Graduate Thesis Collection
There has been wide recognition for a number of years that psychological components played a part in the etiology and treatment of some cases of chronic urticaria. Divergent opinion has been expressed regarding the importance of these components and their specific indentification. Most contentions in this area are supported by meager experimental evidence and the formulations are too often based on the superficial observation of a large number of cases or on the intensive study of the individual case.
The hypothesis of this research is that siqnificant psvchological components exist in patients with chronic urticaria and that these components are …
An Investigation Of Certain Aspects Of Human Figure Drawings As A Measure Of Sociability Of The Person, Vincent Boone Alig
An Investigation Of Certain Aspects Of Human Figure Drawings As A Measure Of Sociability Of The Person, Vincent Boone Alig
Graduate Thesis Collection
For many years considerable interest has been shown in spontaneous drawing productions as related to personality study. However, little has been accomplished toward validating this measure as useful in the clinic, and even less has been done to demonstrate its usefulness with "normal" individuals. This study, therefore, is an attempt to determine whether or not certain aspects i.e., the manner in which the arms and hands are represented, in drawings of the human figure will objectively differentiate between social and non-social, "normal" individuals.
