It is sometimes held to be paradoxical that liberal democracy has offered no sound justification of itself. For those who are citizens of liberal democracies, and therefore are concerned not only with the regime of the fatherland but a 1 so with the good regime genus, this paradox causes not only confusion. The citizen is left a so without justification for the patros: his love of the fatherland has then no rational logos. In political circl~, the State of Utah is often referred to as a "hive of conservatism." Several factors seem to indicate that this reputation is well deserved. For example, recent survey data indicate that 54 percent of the voters in the state identify themselves as either strong, not so strong, or leaning Republicans--this is far above the national average of 23 percent Republican identifiers as estimated by Gallup opinion polls. Also, many political observers feel that Utah's all Republican Washington delegation currently constitutes the most conservative team in Congress. More than any other market aspect, price has the most direct linkage to supply and demand. Suppliers make product decisions according to production costs. Consumers decide their purchases after considering prices. Most prices are not set arbitrarily. Many factors must be analyzed before proper prices are applied. For this reason, the market manager must consider pricing strategies, evaluate applicable factors, set the price, predict its effect on the market, then observe the outcomes. During a recent midterm congressional election I was reminded of the process that the average American citizen must go through to vote. This process began, in my case, several weeks in advance of the actual vote. First, I had to make a number of phone ca 11 s to determine where to register. Then, I was forced to take time out of my daily schedule to go down and register during their office hours. Argentina in 1976 was a place of unusual paradox. The government with more than 60% of the popular vote seemed to have crumbled to the ground with almost no backing from those who had put it into office. Its downfall was due to its inability to resolve the "national crisis" facing the nation.

On 24 March 1976, the military finally intervened via a coup d'etat. Under the new regime, violations of human rights have been reported and protests have been made by leading human rights movements. The military junta argues that its policies and course of actions are necessary for …

A number of developments over the past decade or so illustrate the increasing salience of environmental problems for Soviet policy makers. In the mid-1960s, controversy over the potential pollution of Lake Baikal appears to have stimulated and legitimized environmental protection as an issue for discussion in the Soviet press. The output of scholarly books and articles by philosophers, economists, biologists, physicists, and sociologists reflects the broad range of organizations concerned with these questions. Support is also evident in high places-Brezhnev's report to the 25th Party Congress in 1976 emphasized the importance of environmental protection and announced that 11 billion rubles …

The conflict in the Middle East is a turbulent situation of great significance to the entire world. This study examines the internal political scene of Israel and its affect on the overall Middle East situation. It focuses on ideology, structure, and policy within Israel as components of that scene.

The ideology of Zionism provided the justification for the creation of Israel and continues to form the basis for governmental decision making there. An analysis of the principles of Zionism and of the statements, writings, and actions of Zionist leaders showed that the ideology could reasonably be interpreted as racist and …

This study represents a first and very preliminary attempt to describe the development of rural policies and structures and their consequences in Syria under the Ba'th regime. The analysis pretends to no conceptual or methodological sophistication. Its basic limitation derives from the research method employed, entailing heavy dependence on a program of official interviews and village "field trips" undertaken by the writer with the cooperation of the Ba'th party authorities within a limited period of time (one year)

The purpose of this thesis is to illustrate the situation of the Kurdish minority in Turkey within the theoretical parameters of political integration. The problem: are the Kurds in Turkey politically integrated? Within the definition of political development generally, and of political integration specifically, are found problem areas inherent to a modernizing polity. These problem areas of identity, legitimacy, penetration, participation~ and distribution are the basis of analysis in determining the extent of political integration for the Kurds in Turkey.
