Traditional, hierarchical views of leadership are less and less useful given the complexities of our modern world. Leadership theory must transition to new perspectives that account for the complex adaptive needs of organizations. In this paper, we propose that leadership (as opposed to leaders) can be seen as a complex dynamic process that emerges in the interactive “spaces between” people and ideas. That is, leadership is a dynamic that transcends the capabilities of individuals alone; it is the product of interaction, tension, and exchange rules governing changes in perceptions and understanding. This study examined the significance of vision and charisma as the two pertinent characteristics that explain the difference in the degree of commitment of followers. The following hypotheses were proposed: (1) Leaders who espouse a more inclusive vision are more likely to mobilize highly committed followers; and (2) Leaders who are more charismatic are more likely to mobilize highly committed followers. ' Leaders of the Civil Rights Movement in the United States and the Independence Movement in India, specifically, Martin Luther King, Jr., Roy Wilkins, Stokely Carmichael, Mohandas Gandhi, Abul Kalam Azad, and Mohammad Ali Jinnah were assessed. This thesis addressed the relationships between students who reported enjoyment of learning and the perceived future value of using the various components, stages and tools of the Creative Problem Solving (CPS) process, and their CPS styles as measured by the Buffalo Creative Process Inventory (BCPI). Data was collected using the BCPI and an end-of-course survey in both graduate and undergraduate introductory CPS courses from January through December 2000. A key quantitative outcome revealed that the principles and tools in relation to the divergent thinking aspect of the CPS process were the most enjoyable to learn and rated the highest future …

The purpose of this report was to identify why rural women’s involvement in government decision-making is of a low level despite the concerted government action, and to furthermore provide solutions to inform action. The advent of federal funding for rural social services during the late 1960s and 1970s brought about changes in the political organization of rural America. A host of new organizational actors, like Area Agencies on Aging and various local aging agencies were created in rural communities across the country, in the wake of Baker v. Carr with its “one man/one vote” principle and funding through programs like the Economic Opportunity Act and the Older Americans Act.
