Eeg Studies Of Pre-Stimulus Activity During Turn-Taking In Naturalistic Conversation, Seyedmohamadreza Manzourolajdad
Eeg Studies Of Pre-Stimulus Activity During Turn-Taking In Naturalistic Conversation, Seyedmohamadreza Manzourolajdad
Student Works (2020-2029)
This study integrates conversational analysis principles and neural activity to investigate natural cognition and examine event-related brain changes. A wireless electroencephalography (EEG) device was used in an ecological validity setting to analyse pre-stimulus brain activity preceding conversational turns. This study aims to identify aspects of the conversation that reflect its naturalness in the aspect of listening and the corresponding brain activity by analysing the signals before and after a turn in a conversation. This research contributes to an ecologically valid understanding of natural conversation as a social action that enables seamless communication. Seven Malaysian participants (aged 19–22, M=20.46) engaged in …
A Study Of Refusal Strategies Used By Malaysian Teenagers., Phaveena Primsuwan
A Study Of Refusal Strategies Used By Malaysian Teenagers., Phaveena Primsuwan
Student Works (2010-2019)
The aim of this study is to identify the refusal strategies used by Malaysian students when they make refusals. The data was taken from 80 respondents in one of the universities in Malaysia, where conversations between the researcher and the respondents based on a task that was set by the researcher were recorded. The spoken data was analyzed based on Beebe et. al’s refusal strategies (1990) which consist of direct and indirect refusals. Data was then transcribed using Jefferson’s(1978) transcription conventions. This study found that most of the respondents employed the direct refusal when they refuse. Most of them tend …
The Perception Of Arabic-Accented English Vowels., Zhang Fan
The Perception Of Arabic-Accented English Vowels., Zhang Fan
Student Works (2010-2019)
Evaluation of speech perception is one of the highly focused research areas in the field of phonetics and phonology. However, there is limited research on the perception of the language produced by the Arabic-speakers of English. Since Arabic is the dominant language, it can be assumed that there is an L1 interference in the English produced by the Arabic speakers. Moreover, with the internationalization of education, there has been an increase in the number of foreign students pursuing their higher education in Malaysia. This provides the rationale for conducting a study on the intelligibility of the English spoken by the …
Soalan-Soalan Kemahiran Menulis Di Dalam Buku Teks Bahasa Arab Komunikasi : Satu Kajian Kes, Normazidah Mahmood
Soalan-Soalan Kemahiran Menulis Di Dalam Buku Teks Bahasa Arab Komunikasi : Satu Kajian Kes, Normazidah Mahmood
Student Works (2000-2009)
Perkaitan Antara Kognisi, Bahasa Dan Komunikasi : Satu Kajian Kes, Noor Hasnoor Mohamad Nor
Perkaitan Antara Kognisi, Bahasa Dan Komunikasi : Satu Kajian Kes, Noor Hasnoor Mohamad Nor
Student Works (2000-2009)
The purpose of this study is to observe the inter-correlation of cognition, language and communication in normal individual subject. The concept, structure and function of each factor is the basis of the said intercorrelation. The researcher expounds two theories on language acquisition, that is behaviourist and mentalist, as well as study the acquisition along with phonological, morphological, syntax and semantic levels. The intercorrelation of cognition, language and communication is subsequently refined using two methods - external and internal - as previously used by Foss and Hakes (1978). Internal representation is observed via cognition and semantic aspects, whereas external representation via …
