การศึกษานี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ 1) วิเคราะห์ค่าช่วงเวลาเริ่มเสียงก้องของพยัญชนะกักในภาษาไทย คือ พยัญชนะกักก้อง กักไม่ก้องไม่พ่นลม และกักไม่ก้องพ่นลมของผู้หญิงข้ามเพศและเปรียบเทียบกับผู้ชายและผู้หญิง 2) ศึกษาระดับความเป็นหญิงของผู้หญิงข้ามเพศด้วยค่าดัชนีความเป็นหญิงและความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างค่าช่วงเวลาเริ่มเสียงก้องกับดัชนีความเป็นหญิง สำหรับการวิเคราะห์ค่าช่วงเวลาเริ่มเสียงก้อง เก็บข้อมูลเสียงจากรายการคำที่ประกอบด้วยคำพูดเดี่ยวที่มีพยัญชนะกักแป็นพยัญชนะต้น จากผู้หญิงข้ามเพศ 15 คน ผู้ชาย 10 คนและผู้หญิง 10 คน ส่วนการวิเคราะห์ดัชนีความเป็นหญิง เก็บข้อมูลด้วยแบบสอบถามมาตรวัดลิเคิร์ทสเกล 5 ระดับซึ่งประกอบด้วยคำถามที่สะท้อนอัตลักษณ์ทางเพศและเพศวิถีจากผู้หญิงข้ามเพศ ผลการศึกษาทางกลสัทศาสตร์พบว่า ค่าช่วงเวลาเริ่มเสียงก้องโดยรวมของผู้หญิงข้ามเพศมีค่าระยะเวลายาวกว่าผู้ชายและผู้หญิงอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับ 0.01 ลักษณะเด่นชัดที่สุดของการผลิตเสียงพยัญชนะกักของผู้หญิงข้ามเพศพบในพยัญชนะกักไม่ก้องไม่พ่นลม ซึ่งมีรูปแบบที่แตกต่างจากผู้ชายและผู้หญิง และมีช่วงพ่นลมที่ยาวกว่าผู้ชายและผู้หญิงอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับ 0.01 อีกด้วย ผลการศึกษาเกี่ยวกับระดับความเป็นหญิงพบว่า ผู้หญิงข้ามเพศในการศึกษาครั้งนี้มีระดับความเป็นหญิงอยู่ในช่วง 2-4 จากทั้งหมด 5 ระดับ เมื่อวิเคราะห์ความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างค่าช่วงเวลาเริ่มเสียงก้องกับค่าดัชนีความเป็นหญิงพบว่า พยัญชนะกักก้องและกักไม่ก้องพ่นลมมีความสัมพันธ์เชิงบวกกับค่าดัชนีความเป็นหญิงของผู้หญิงข้ามเพศ โดยมีนัยสำคัญอยู่ที่ระดับ 0.01 ในขณะที่ค่าช่วงเวลาเริ่มเสียงก้องของพยัญชนะกักไม่ก้องไม่พ่นลมไม่พบความสัมพันธ์กับค่าดัชนีความเป็นหญิง นอกจากค่าช่วงเวลาเริ่มเสียงก้องแล้ว ยังพบว่าค่าระยะเวลาของช่วงพ่นลมของพยัญชนะกักไม่ก้องพ่นลมมีความสัมพันธ์เชิงบวกกับค่าดัชนีความเป็นหญิงด้วย ข้อค้นพบเหล่านี้แสดงให้เห็นเอกลักษณ์ทางเสียงของผู้หญิงข้ามเพศที่แตกต่างจากผู้ชายและผู้หญิง และการแปรภายในกลุ่มของเสียงผู้หญิงข้ามเพศซึ่งสัมพันธ์กับตัวตนทางเพศของผู้หญิงข้ามเพศ

งานวิจัยนี้จัดทำขึ้นเพื่อศึกษา 1) การตีความสรรพนามสะท้อนรูปอ้างตามในภาษาไทย อันได้แก่ สรรพนามสะท้อนรูปเดี่ยว ตัวเอง และสรรพนามสะท้อนรูปประสม ตัวเขาเอง ตามข้อค้นพบของ Hoonchamlong (1991) ที่เสนอไว้ว่าสรรพนามสะท้อนรูปเดี่ยวใช้อ้างถึงรูปที่ถูกแทนที่เป็นประธานภายในอนุพากย์เดียวกันเท่านั้น ขณะที่สรรพนามสะท้อนรูปประสมสามารถใช้อ้างถึงรูปที่ถูกแทนที่เป็นประธานหรือกรรมที่ปรากฏภายในหรือภายนอกอนุพากย์เดียวกันก็ได้ และ 2) ปัจจัยที่มีอิทธิพลต่อการตีความสรรพนามสะท้อนรูปเดี่ยว ตัวเอง และสรรพนามสะท้อนรูปประสม ตัวเขาเอง อันได้แก่ ปัจจัยความเป็นประธาน และปัจจัยระยะห่างจากรูปอ้างตาม ผู้วิจัยใช้วิธีการทดสอบการตีความภายหลังด้วยแบบสอบถาม เพื่อทดสอบความเป็นไปได้ของการตีความสรรพนามสะท้อนรูปอ้างตามในภาษาไทยว่าเป็นไปตามข้อเสนอของ Hoonchamlong (1991) หรือไม่ ผลจากแบบสอบถามพบว่าปัจจัยความเป็นประธานของรูปที่ถูกแทนส่งผลต่อการตีความสรรพนามสะท้อนทั้งรูปเดี่ยวและรูปประสมให้อ้างถึงรูปที่ถูกแทนที่ทำหน้าที่เป็นประธานมากกว่ารูปที่ถูกแทนที่ทำหน้าที่เป็นกรรม และปัจจัยระยะห่างจากรูปอ้างตามก็ส่งผลต่อการตีความสรรพนามสะท้อนทั้งรูปเดี่ยวและรูปประสมให้อ้างถึงรูปที่ถูกแทนที่ทำหน้าที่เป็นประธานภายในอนุพากย์เดียวกันมากกว่ารูปที่ถูกแทนที่ทำหน้าที่เป็นประธานภายนอกอนุพากย์ นอกจากนี้ ผู้วิจัยใช้การทดลองทางภาษาศาสตร์จิตวิทยาแบบกำหนดเวลาอ่านด้วยตัวเอง เพื่อศึกษาปัจจัยที่มีอิทธิพลต่อการประมวลผลในระยะเวลาจริงของสรรพนามสะท้อนรูปอ้างตามในภาษาไทย การทดลองที่ 1 ศึกษาปัจจัยความเป็นประธาน ผลจากการทดลองพบว่าปัจจัยความเป็นประธานเอื้อต่อการประมวลผลประโยคที่ ตัวเอง และ ตัวเขาเอง อ้างถึงประธานได้เร็วกว่ากรรม การทดลองที่ 2 ศึกษาปัจจัยระยะห่างจากรูปอ้างตาม ผลจากการทดลองพบว่าปัจจัยระยะห่างจากรูปอ้างตามเอื้อต่อการประมวลผลประโยคที่ ตัวเอง และ ตัวเขาเอง อ้างถึงประธานภายในอนุพากย์เดียวกันได้เร็วกว่าประธานภายนอกอนุพากย์ อย่างไรก็ดี ปัจจัยทั้ง 2 ข้างต้นมีแนวโน้มที่จะส่งผลต่อการตีความสรรพนามสะท้อนรูปประสมมากกว่าสรรพนามสะท้อนรูปเดี่ยว กล่าวโดยสรุป งานวิจัยนี้ไม่เป็นไปตามข้อเสนอของ Hoonchamlong (1991) กล่าวคือทั้งสรรพนามสะท้อนรูปเดี่ยวและรูปประสมนั้นต่างมีแนวโน้มที่จะอ้างถึงรูปที่ถูกแทนที่ทำหน้าที่เป็นประธานมากกว่ากรรม หรือรูปที่ถูกแทนที่เป็นประธานภายในอนุพากย์เดียวกันมากกว่าประธานภายนอกอนุพากย์ นอกจากนี้ ในช่วงระยะเวลาหนึ่งของการทำความเข้าใจประโยคนั้น สรรพนามสะท้อนรูปประสมมีความไวต่อการตีความให้อ้างถึงรูปที่ถูกแทนที่ทำหน้าที่เป็นประธาน หรือรูปที่ถูกแทนที่เป็นประธานภายในอนุพากย์เดียวกันมากกว่าสรรพนามสะท้อนรูปเดี่ยว

The limited availability of Egyptian Arabic (EA) corpus resources, especially speech corpora, has left open opportunity for research into such dialect phenomena as register. In this paper we introduce a new two-millionword EA corpus, CALM. We perform a register analysis on EA between two subcorpora of CALM (i.e. Movies and Blogs), showing several features that vary between the two. A discussion follows about how annotation was carried out automatically, how it was handcorrected, and what the prospects are for carrying out similar studies using CALM.

This thesis presents a study of final vowel devoicing in Blackfoot, an indigenous language of Montana and Alberta. Previous research on final vowel devoicing in Blackfoot variously suggests word-final, phrase-final, and utterance-final vowel devoicing processes (e.g. Taylor 1965, Bliss & Gick 2009, Frantz 2017), though, the conditioning environment for this phenomenon had not been a research focus prior to this study. The present study investigates intonation units (IUs) as the conditioning domain for final vowel devoicing in Blackfoot.

This thesis examines the experiential aspectual marker -guo under control in Mandarin. The status of -guo under control has been a subject of controversy, involving two important theoretical questions. The first question concerns whether -guo under control is syntactically associated with the matrix verb or the embedded verb. The second question deals with whether, in terms of interpretive effects, -guo under control triggers actuality entailments. This thesis addresses the latter question through an interpretive judgment test conducted among 260 native Mandarin speakers. Extended Abstract: Comparison Of Peer And Instructor Qualitative Feedback On Presentations, Matthew J. Baker, William H. Baker

New presentation-feedback technologies enable peers and instructors to provide real-time qualitative feedback on oral presentations. Previous research suggests that summative quantitative ratings of peers and instructors tend to be moderately reliable, but no research exists on how substantive qualitative ratings compare. Analyzing the substantive qualitative feedback from 10 students and 10 instructors on two professional presentations, this study analyzes differences in the message- and messenger-related comments of peers and instructors. Findings suggest that instructors provide proportionally more messenger-related feedback.

Introduction: Technical and professional communication (TPC) instructors value audience awareness, using peer- and client-based projects to facilitate it. We explore how students’ audience awareness is facilitated by the case method, which presents students with a professional communication task within a workplace scenario.

Situating the case: Case-method research suggests including a detailed audience and situation, multiple genres, and multimedia. Few studies have explored how case materials facilitate students’ audience awareness.
