Library Disaster Preparedness In Southeast Asia: A Systematic Review, Azraai Abidin, Mohd Najib Abdullah, Noor Faezah Shaari, Nur Shurbaniah Saad

ASEAN Journal of Community Engagement

This systematic review, which follows the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, examines the current state of disaster preparedness in libraries across Southeast Asia. It evaluates existing research using four core emergency preparedness rule elements: risk assessment and planning, the communication plan, policies and procedures, and training and testing. While an initial search identified 488 potential studies, only seven met the strict criteria; these seven studies were from Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines. This article describes the collaborative process involved in selecting the streaming service Kanopy as a learning resource for in-person and distance instruction in a university setting. The process of implementing the service, as well as the service’s special features that aided in that process are outlined. This article discusses how Kanopy has been used for marketing library resources and outreach to our academic community. Moving forward, strategies will be employed to transition our patronage’s sentiment of Kanopy from a resource for entertainment, to a research tool as well.

Open Educational Resources (OERs) are materials such as books, articles, videos of lectures, and other resources provided to students free of charge. The increase in textbook costs has caused students to depend upon OERs. OERs are excellent teaching resources for students and instructors because they are free or low-cost and easy to adapt to instructor curricula. Furthermore, they can help students from low-income families save money. This paper will discuss the importance, challenges, and benefits of open educational resources in higher education institutions.

Since 2021, the American Library Association has reported a marked increase in the number of book challenges in the United States. Public and school libraries, where most of these attempts at censorship occur, frequently celebrate Banned Books Week each fall, to raise awareness about the ongoing threat to intellectual freedom. College and university libraries face fewer book challenges and might not celebrate Banned Books Week; however, given the rise in number and visibility of conversations surrounding book banning, hosting events on the week’s theme offers academic libraries a way to engage their students thoughtfully in civic conversations. The CARE Principles for Indigenous Data Governance are a seminal advance in the stewardship of Indigenous data. The Data Services for Indigenous Scholarship and Sovereignty (DSISS) project is working to guide how research libraries and data repositories can apply the CARE principles to support scholars of Indigenous culture and language. Building on a set of foundational case studies of Indigenous scholarship, this paper reports on analysis of formal engagement activities with scholars, Indigenous community members, and information and data professionals. Objective

This study collected and analyzed data on the required and recommended textbooks and board exam prep resources in academic health sciences libraries that serve accredited colleges of osteopathic medicine (COM) programs in the United States.

Methods

The study consisted of locating, compiling, and analyzing data on the required and recommended texts and board exam prep resources through the COM libraries’ public-facing websites.

Results

The investigators compiled the required or recommended texts and the board exam prep resources used within the COM curricula from 38 COM libraries.

Conclusion

The study results provide information for medical school administrators, especially within the …

Two distinct modes of data governance have emerged in accessing and reusing viral data pertaining to COVID-19: an unrestricted model, espoused by data repositories part of the International Nucleotide Sequence Database Collaboration and a regulated model promoted by the Global Initiative on Sharing All Influenza data. In this paper, we focus on publications mentioning either infrastructure in the period between January 2020 and January 2023, thus capturing a period of acute response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Using data from seven R1 and R2 universities in Ohio, this study seeks to determine the extent of usage of full-text e-journal articles stored across multiple platforms. Specifically, COUNTER 5 data is presented from five major academic journal publishers (Taylor & Francis, SAGE, Oxford, Wiley, and Springer), looking at usage within each of the publishers’ respective platforms, as well as in EBSCO, JSTOR, and OhioLINK’s Electronic Journal Center platform.
