The Franklin University Library has a library etextbook initiative to provide free via library (FVL) textbooks for student use in courses to enhance affordable learning. This presentation discusses the library's etextbook initiative: how it developed, how it works, data showing student savings resulting from the initiative, and issues/problems we have encountered.

Since 2021, the American Library Association has reported a marked increase in the number of book challenges in the United States. Public and school libraries, where most of these attempts at censorship occur, frequently celebrate Banned Books Week each fall, to raise awareness about the ongoing threat to intellectual freedom. College and university libraries face fewer book challenges and might not celebrate Banned Books Week; however, given the rise in number and visibility of conversations surrounding book banning, hosting events on the week’s theme offers academic libraries a way to engage their students thoughtfully in civic conversations. Graduate Students' E-Book Awareness And Usage At A Public Research University In The U.S.A., Denise Brush, Daniel G. Kipnis

Purpose

This study aims to understand the level of graduate students’ awareness and usage of e-books purchased by the authors’ university library since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Design/methodology/approach

The authors created a Qualtrics survey with 13 questions that was sent to the university’s graduate student email list. The survey was sent in the fall of 2023 and was open for one month. The list had 3,318 subscribers; 113 complete responses were received, for a response rate of 3.4%.

Findings

The results found that doctoral students (80%) are more aware than master’s students (64%) of e-book availability through the library, and usage …

The motivations of setting up an IR were to dissemination the research output through open access, to promote the university and researchers, and to help increase their research impact. This study examined at how ICT could improve resource sharing amongst academic libraries in Tanzania. The assessment was conducted in the MUHAS, UDSM, OUT, and TUDARCO libraries—all of which are COTUL members and take part in the system of resource sharing. A quantitative research strategy was used, and questionnaires were used to gather data. SPSS Version 20 was used to analyze the data using descriptive statistics. Participants thought the library's ICT infrastructure was insufficient for resource sharing, according to the study's findings. This study analyzes the citations of Masters Theses in Library and Information Science of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Nigeria submitted from 2011 to 2018 with a view to determining the format and age of materials used and most frequently cited journals. The document checklists were used for data collections and the citations were extracted from the title pages and reference lists of each of the theses. This chapter describes how undergraduate students created an interactive display in an academic library to address food insecurity among students at their university. In the 2021 fall semester, students in the Honors College course, The Human Rights of Students, created a visual display to present and refine their work on raising awareness of food insecurity. Spurred by the 2020 University of New Mexico Basic Needs Report, they engaged others in conversation through digital and analog media to dispel stigma and promote resources.
