In this brief newsletter column, the author recounts the story of how a LISTSERV-based discussion list founded in 1991 helped to transform an international multi-disciplinary research society from a "Cinderella organization" that convened once a year for a three-day conference and then effectively disappeared again until the next annual conference. Communications fostered through the discussion list helped to transform the organization into a fully-functioning, year-round operation as subscriptions burgeoned from an original 32 subscribers to more than 1,500.

Analysis Of The 100 Most-Cited Papers In One Of The Leading Library And Information Science Journals “Scientometrics”, Muhammad Tanveer, Ikram Ul Haq, Haider Mahmood, Zhang Yu

Scientometrics is one of the leading peer-reviewed journals in the field of Library and Information Science (LIS). The present study is aimed to evaluate the salient characteristics of the 100 most-cited papers of Scientometrics. The bibliographic data of most cited papers were extracted from the Scopus database. The attributes of selected papers were analyzed by using Microsoft Excel, VOSviewer, and Biblioshiny software. These papers were published between 1979 and 2017. All papers gained citations with a mean ratio of 332.86 citations per paper and the range of citations varies from 155 to 3,222. These papers were contributed by 221authors, with …

This study has made an attempt to analysis the engineering college faculty members use of electronic resources and its impact of academic growth in Namakkal district in Tamilnadu. Based on the aim, survey method is applied and standard, structured and pretested questionnaire as a tool of this study. Percentage analysis, one-way ANOVA and post-host statistical tools are used for data analysis. Pie and bar charts also used for data representation. 1070 fully filled questionnaires received from the respondents. Thirty Years Research Output On Rural Women Entrepreneurship: A Bibliometric Analysis Of Publications (1989-2018), Seema Parmar, Suman Ghalawat

The present study is an effort to highlights the growth of literature on rural women entrepreneurship from 1989 to 2018. Data was taken from a leading indexing database Scopus. A total number of 188 articles on the topic were explored in different type of published documents. The results shows that research output on rural women entrepreneurship was increased gradually from 7 in 2011 to 16 in 2015 and 25 in 2018. A continuous increase in literature was recorded from first decade to the latest decade. Majority of publications (19.14%) received at least once citations followed by 18.08 % received 6 …

This study was conducted to assess the levels of motivation of 14 motivating factors on academic librarians in four Nigerian Federal Universities based on gender and years of service. The population comprised of 66 librarians from the universities of Abeokuta, Calabar, Ibadan, and Uyo. An 18-item structured questionnaire, with section A soliciting for respondents’ biodata and section B soliciting for respondents’ opinion regarding how much they were motivated by each of the 14 motivating factors, was adopted for data collection. This article describes an active-learning exercise intended to help teach copyright, fair use, and Creative Commons licenses. In the exercise students use a worksheet to draw original pictures, create derivative pictures on tracing paper, select Creative Commons licenses, and explore commercial usage, fair use, and copyright infringement. Librarian-instructors may find the completed worksheets to be useful aids to supplement copyright lectures; student perspectives will be integral because they are generating the examples used in discussion. This case study describes the library’s experience of collaborating with an undergraduate Psychology Department at Touro College to integrate open textbooks into their program. We discuss the pedagogical changes as well as explore the impact of Open Educational Resources (OER) on students’ savings, their academic outcomes and perceptions of OER. Furthermore, we highlight the successes and shortcomings in having the library as a central OER partner. To measure the results, we surveyed students and conducted a faculty survey and a focus group, in addition to analyzing the students’ final grades. This pilot program delivered strong results. The Research Repository @ WVU was launched in October 2018 to serve as the institutional repository for West Virginia University and a corner stone of the WVU Libraries Scholarly Communications & Publishing Program. The repository collects, preserves, and showcases creative and scholarly works from WVU faculty, staff, and students and makes them available to readers worldwide.

This report highlights the growth and impact of the Research Repository since its launch in October 2018. Statistics reported are accurate as of November 30, 2020.

In 2012, the Association of Research Libraries reported that 95% of libraries identified their libraries as leaders of scholarly communication efforts on campus. While academic librarians have long been responsible for SC issues, institutions have explicitly tasked positions with these responsibilities increasingly over time. This qualitative analysis of position announcements focuses on the ways libraries expect these librarians to engage with SC issues and responsibilities, rather than describing the prevalence of SC-related functions. An examination of research participation, career progression and perceptions across the globe.

As part of Elsevier’s ongoing efforts to promote gender diversity and advance gender equity in research using an evidence-based approach, we developed this latest report to understand how gender impacts the researcher journey. Drawing on robust data sets, we analyzed information about authors of academic publications, grant recipients and patent applicants to gain insights into trends in gender-based representation across 15 countries and the EU28.

In addition to the general global trends, there were notable country-specific findings. For example, Argentina was the closest to gender parity among authors …

The Repository Analytics & Metrics Portal (RAMP) is a web service that leverages Google Search Console (GSC) data to provide a set of baseline search engine performance metrics for a global, cross-platform group of institutional repositories (IR). Since launching in 2017, RAMP has grown from 3 to more than 50 participating repositories. The underlying data are unique in scope and size, and offer many opportunities for novel analyses of IR search engine performance. INTRODUCTION: When U.S. News & World Report announced that it would rank law schools’ scholarly impact, U.S. News asked law schools to work with HeinOnline, a legal database, to ensure the accuracy of the database-created faculty author profiles because they would be using Hein’s database to gather citation metrics to measure scholarly impact. DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM: This practice article describes a project at UNC Chapel Hill in the law library to ensure that their faculty publications were included in HeinOnline’s database and that HeinOnline Author Profiles were accurate.
