In February 2019, UO Libraries opened the new UO Libraries Digital Research, Education, and Media (DREAM) Lab to be a space for faculty and graduate students to learn new digital scholarship tools, methods, and techniques, data management and visualization, instructional design, accessibility, user experience, and assessment. With a strong campus appetite to develop Omeka-based digital humanities projects, Digital Scholarship Services (DSS) librarians designed its first DIY digital scholarship workshop series called Owning Your Omeka with intention to empower researchers and educators to make their own digital exhibits using Reclaim Hosting.

Many MySpace users were dismayed to discover earlier this year that the social media platform lost 50 million files uploaded between 2003 and 2015. The failure of MySpace to care for and preserve its users’ content should serve as a reminder that relying on free third-party services can be risky. MySpace has probably preserved the users’ data; it just lost their content. The data was valuable to MySpace; the users’ content less so.

This study examines the contributions of African countries to open digital repositories in the world information space. Two online directories of open digital repositories were used as data sources. The OpenDOAR is an authoritative directory of academic open access repositories listing 3,670 repositories as at 6^th January, 2019. The Registry of Open Access Repositories (ROAR) is a directory of 4,580 institutional repositories and their contents as at 7^th January, 2019. Extracted data were analysed using quantitative techniques and presented in tabular and pictorial formats to reveal findings in accordance with desired objectives. Textbooks have long been an integral learning platform in higher education. As the rising cost of textbooks continues to burden students, many libraries have begun to facilitate the creation and publishing of open textbooks. While many colleges and universities have surveyed students about their textbook purchasing habits and interest in open textbooks, fewer surveys have captured student feedback on their actual hands on experiences with their resources. Portland State University (PSU) Library and the University of Minnesota (UofM) Libraries have both collected date from students about their experiences with open textbooks selected and created specifically for their courses.

A team of Bryant University Librarians are participating in the EXCITE Transformation for Libraries program through the Connecticut State Library. We conducted a series of structured group and one-on-one conversations with students, faculty, and staff in order to learn about how they think and feel about teamwork, the library, and collaboration at the library. We found that students in particular were far more responsive to community sessions than in taking surveys.

This white paper reports on the findings of the Digital Library Futures project (2017-2019), which investigates the impact of Non-Print Legal Deposit (NPLD) on academic legal deposit libraries and their users in the United Kingdom. It argues that discussions of NPLD have paid too little attention to user behaviour and requirements, and that it is necessary to adopt an ongoing user-focused evaluation framework to inform NPLD planning and implementation.

Background: In the development of a new institutional repository, library staff at a large health system were faced with building an organizational structure that would be meaningful to both internal and external users. The health system context meant unique challenges designing a taxonomy that supported end users as well as institutional goals and branding. Health systems have unique user needs for specialized collections and organizational schemes. The study presents an outlook of publication trends of eLearning research in the Indian scenario during the last ten years (2009-2018.). The data collected from the Scopus Database using the specific query statement. A total of 8181 publications in different forms (journals article, conference papers, book chapters, etc.) were being collated, tabulated and analyzed and inferences were drawn for the study. Further, annual growth rate (AGR) of papers; most prolifically authors, institutions; most cited papers; h-index; and citation status has been provided.

Background: While more common in university settings, institutional repositories (IR) have a place within hospitals and healthcare systems too, though the challenges in creating them may be different. This paper looks at the development of a Digital Commons institutional repository at Providence St. Joseph Health. The authors present the necessary steps for a successful initiative beginning with the planning process and building from there. Highlighted are some of the different challenges faced in non-academic settings; considerations when selecting a platform and designing and structure; and recommendations for doing outreach and promotion to unique user groups.

Developing countries comprise 40 percent of international downloads and 25 percent of all downloads from University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s institutional repository. This presentation will summarize the use of the Nebraska Digital Commons by representative countries in South Asia, East Asia and the Pacific, and Sub-Saharan Africa, the three regions where the most developing country downloads occurred in 2018.
