This study investigates the use of ICT for distance learning by students of the National Open University of Nigeria. A descriptive survey design was adopted for this study and the main instrument for data collection was questionnaire. Copies of the questionnaire were administered on students of the National Open University of Nigeria, main campus, Lagos. Findings from the data analysis revealed that the level of ICT use among the respondents was high and; easy accessibility to most of the ICT facilities needed for distance learning is identified as the major factor responsible for the high level of usage of ICT …

Research Focus And Trends In Nuclear Science And Technology In Ghana: A Bibliometric Study Based On The Inis Database, Elizabeth Ama Agyeman Ms., Albert Bilson Mr

The peaceful application of atomic energy was introduced into Ghana about fifty years ago. This is the first bibliometric study of nuclear science and technology research publications listed in the International Nuclear Information System (INIS) Database, originating from Ghana. The purpose was to use the simple document counting method to determine the geographical distribution, annual growth and the subject areas of the publications as well as communication channels, key journals and authorship trends. Awareness And Usage Of Cloud Computing Application Among Lis Professionals: A Case Study Of 17 Indian University Libraries, Sabiti Majhi, Sarika Meher, Bulu Maharana

This study was conducted in seventeen Indian university Libraries to assess the familiarity and usage of cloud computing applications among Library and information Science professionals. The investigator collected responses from 56 number of LIS professionals working at 17 Indian University Libraries, through a structured questionnaire. Results revealed that the usage of cloud computing applications in library operation and services is not very significant. However, LIS professionals are using those applications for different personal purposes like, Store Files Online, Store Personal Videos and photographs online and for Collaborative writing. Copyright law in the United States has gained a certain notoriety for its complexity and ambiguity, which has only been compounded by the evolution (or, some would say, revolution) of print resources to electronic resources. The purpose of this literature review is to review the current understanding of copyright law within the context of academic libraries in universities and colleges. Additionally, this review will describe what issues academic librarians face in complying with copyright law in this new digital age while continuing to perform duties such as processing course reserve materials, developing an institutional repository, and maintaining a digital collection. …

The present paper is prepared with the purpose to assess the publication trends of scholarly articles in the field of Environmental Sciences that are published in 75 Journals indexed under Science Direct Database during the period 2004 to 2010. It examines and presents an analysis of 645 research papers with a focus on Indian scenario. Traditionally, academic libraries have held the responsibility of housing, disseminating, and preserving the scholarly output of their universities. These materials, including but not limited to student dissertations and theses, as well as faculty publications were--and still are-- primarily held in the libraries’ archives and special collections departments. With the unstoppable march of bits and bites, academic libraries experience an increasingly strong push towards preserving digital records of scholarly output in electronic Institutional Repositories (IR).
